Prime Suspect is legitimately the best procedural detective show, my god. We’re in Series 4 now where they briefly become standalone stories and these are all total bangers. Mirren is always great always, but DCI Jane Tennison is one of her absolute best.

I finally checked my Letterboxd stats for last year, and this result is absolutely delightful. Describes me precisely: loves Miss Marple and Twin Peaks: The Return pretty much the same.

Moby Dick is so not what people assume it to be. First and foremost it is a deeply insane meta-novel that occasionally turns into a play or 40 pages of obsessive detail about the whale’s baleen. It is one of the most epic, and also one of the gayer, sea disasters ever penned. It rocks.

Saw Marty Supreme. Finally a film that understands the ideal use of Timothee Chalamet is having him be a hateful little shit.

Limping into the new year, quite depressed really, but to be positive: I read way more books last year, that’s good. I put out an album I’m proud of, and people bought it and liked it, that’s good. I still get to primarily laugh for a job, that’s good. And I ate some great omelettes. 2025 🤷🏻♂️

We watched Megalopolis last year on NYE, so last night we watched Megadoc as a kind of bookend, mostly we were hoping it might shed some light on what that movie was or even wanted from its audience…that’d be a big nope on that score lol! Fascinating to watch a man light $100mil on fire tho. 2026!

I am spending my holiday break relaxing (this is a lie, I’m sitting in the same desk chair as usual but working on my next record instead of podcasts, which IS a kind of vacation. Next record is turning out very synthy, very drum-heavy, we are listening to Stereolab, Madonna, Yo La).

Ooh, Wake Me Up Dead Man was very good!! We’ve been watching so much Marple, Wimsey, Morse, Campion, Holmes, this is a solid mystery that credits its genre, the cast is great, might be my favorite Benoit Blanc lewk too. Somewhere on par with the first, definitely superior to Glass Onion!

Finally saw it, and it’s not that MI: The Final Reckoning is bad exactly, it’s just painfully obvious that Fallout can only be topped on a set piece by set piece basis, there’s no competing with its overall relentless economy. And three hours? Dawg?
