Character-wise, I’m kind of borderline shy/wild. I like to surf & turf, in that order.
Words to live by.

I went to Wax Paper in LA because Jenny Slate said a) the sandwiches were bomb, and b) they’re all named after NPR hosts, and I indeed had something of a religious experience with the Terry Gross (turkey on focaccia with a jalapeño/radish slaw, like what the hell is this sorcery).

It’s really sort of the ideal pair of comments haha

Follow-up music, then we’ll do some chores lol. I’ve been obsessed with these King/Federal comps of pre-rock R&B for over a decade, they sneak out one new volume every so often. They claim this is the last, but they’ve said that before! R&B Hipshakers for the win.

Saturday morning music: The Best Of Peggy Lee (in Simulated Stereo). And, please everybody, use good discretion won’t you?

Grinklin has really settled in. This is a friend.

Ah! And the lovely 11x17 posters have just arrived at my door! These will accompany each CD purchase of the new album!

This is just, like, a pile of cat. I don’t think I’ve slept with this much peaceful abandon since Gilmore Girls started airing (unrelated, just setting the scene).

Grinklin, in the act of grinkling about.

It’s a lovely line goes down. They earned every lost cent of it.

Like the sticker says.

Grinklin waits patiently* for me to complete work each day.

*she is not patient, she demands pets and for the string to dance for her more or less hourly, but she will eventually nap down

Midday Bowie break, playing The Gouster, the original version of what became Young Americans, the original really doubled down on disco, the released version tipped more towards blue-eyed soul.

I’m planning to do a limited podcast run about this record and the individual songs, there’s a lot of strange ear candy to zoom in on/things to say about them. For example: this song was suggested by Vic & Bob’s Shooting Stars, a S1 Dove From Above round, but took on a total life of its own.

I just scheduled the first EP from my album! It’ll be out in two weeks. One track from the record, two outtakes, and two of my favorite covers (Billy Joel & Harry Nilsson, together at last). The album proper to follow in Dec!

Painkiller The Pigeon -

PAINKILLER THE PIGEON -

Friendship update: The new cat now follows me to each room and posts up nearby, ready for any affirmations or pets that may be on offer. We didn’t so much decide on a name as agree that since we keep calling her “Grinklin” we should just call her “Grinklin.” It’s like Franklin, but with a grink.

I got this bad boy on Friday. I’ve written six songs since then and only slept by accident haha, the Orchid absolutely rules.

New phone (old one finally cracked and I was slicing up my finglins), thus new background.

Check out this great new episode of our show Staying Alive in order to see me listening intently and nodding vigorously over Jason Mantzoukas’ shoulder for an hour.

My favorite Lizabeth role is the phenomenal but underseen Too Late For Tears (1949) in which she plays Jane Palmer, one of THE most brutal & cold-blooded femme fatales of the whole era, it’s an absolute gem.

Was over by the Walk Of Fame today, which I’m not very often, found the great Lizabeth Scott’s star. She was one of the greatest of all time in the noir era, if allowed by the director she could handily blow Bogart or Burt off the screen, no sweat. We salute you, Lizabeth! 🫡
