I published a journal article! Not a particularly big deal in the grand scheme of things, but as it is my first one, it was exciting - kind but critical lecturers and reviewers made a world of difference!

This was a brilliant session. I learnt so much about how Catholic archives have(n’t) been curated & where to look for documents for place-based research. Hugely grateful to @catholicrs.bsky.social @carmenmangion.bsky.social @drfrancisyoung.bsky.social & #LawrenceGregory for sharing their wisdom.
Are you interested in researching the histories of #Catholicism in particular villages, towns & cities in the UK? This recording of a training session we recently ran in collaboration with @catholicrs.bsky.social is for you www.history.ac.uk/podcasts/res...

I'm delighted to share this interview I did with @lexie-henning.bsky.social! I think it's probably the most personal interview I've ever done, touching on how my early academic experiences have ultimately led me to my current focus on race in antiquity and the disciplinary inequities of Classics
Today on Ancient Office Hours, @opietasanimi.com, a professor of Classics at UCLA, discusses the importance of addressing historical inequities within the field, the relevance of ancient texts like those of Cicero, and the modern challenges of teaching classics in a diverse academic landscape.

Classes are done, the majority of students (and faculty!) have fled; only the rustling of the trees and the humming of the bees in their hives intrudes. A highly satisfactory lunch break.

My article, "The Life of Terence, Revisited," has now been published open access in NECJ. In my self-defense classes I focus on how most people are socially conditioned to follow the norms of a civilized, polite society — and there is a MENTAL SHIFT required to use violence to defend from violence.

I'm reminded of this while watching our elected officials dithering and delaying. 1/
