I'd like to share this old video of hers, where she talks about her time working on the 3DO port of Doom.
it's a wild story that stuck with me, and a reminder that sometimes "bad games" have amazing people working on them

Book is good. Exciting, fast paced tour of Smith’s life mostly focused before the breakout success of her first album and how that time of her life intertwined with Robert Mapplethorpe.

Just finished Gulliver’s Travels and… We had dudes making fun of Generative texts in the 1700s. Centuries of ridiculing these grifts.

MwM is a one of the first channels that I subscribed to. At a time when videos about film were predominantly scathing and cynical, Mikey made funny, well crafted, punchy essays that found joy to celebrate.

Well that was a very good book.

Fun, grounded magic, based in heaps of history.

I read this after really enjoying Kuang’s novel Yellowface. But the pitch that would have made me grab it instantly is: In this book Etymology creates magic.

This is a very good song. One of those songs of catharsis you gotta be careful not to wallow in.

A sad nostalgia that feels painful even if you don’t have a similar story.

Feeling pretty good about having just finished my reread of these.

Very excited to have a reason to tackle The Simarillion.

Very excited for this next year of Shelved by Genre.
Let's make it official:

SHELVED BY GENRE's next unit, spanning ALL of 2026, will be a delve into the depths of modern genre with J.R.R. Tolkien's THE HOBBIT, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, and THE SILMARILLION.

If you don't have those, you can grab them through our Bookshop:

I wonder how common it is to have unknown music in your head with no real way to find recordings.

Pre internet it would just be “ Welp that’s gone forever”. we have access to so much; never finding lost songs is infuriating.
