I’ve seen the first two myself over the past year. The third is not very surprising.

Lost in this otherwise great video about how a software dies, there is this bit about shortcuts, and how people don't use them. I feel like #blender3d needs to hear this

I... think I did it? Live fracture in Geometry Nodes. All existing solutions I could find were permanent one-way operations or slow/lossy voxel-based approaches. I won't share this because it's very specific to my needs, but I'll give a simple breakdown in the thread below. 👇🧵

Quad modelling is ONLY needed for clean even subdivision and for fast ring/loop selections. Beyond that it doesn't do anything at all, and when exported than imported into games is triangulated.

Triangles are a useful part of efficient game modelling.
Quads are just a tool to get there.
Ok I gotta know, I've seen debates about this. Is it super imperative to maintain good quad topology when 3D modelling, or are there cases where botching some triangles will suffice? Like what are the rules there?

Still on my mind. What concerns me about this shift more than anything is while it can be marketed as a means of creators bucking the system, this additional financial burden can only be taken on by a fraction of artists, thus gentrifying the medium even further.
Today’s studios are looking for the next SpongeBob or Bluey, but they don’t want to be the ones to nurture it. Instead, the onus is gradually shifting onto the creator. You do the campaigning, you spend the money, and once all risk has been mitigated, then the big studios will come in.
In animation we hear "We want the next Bluey". The cost of doing business used to be making a hundred shows to get a Spongebob. All the other shows? A lot will still make money, and the talent who worked on them could give you the next Bluey.

Wow greasepencil v3 brushes are... interesting.
Now there is only the "brush" tool, which uses brushes which contain the fields : gpencil_tool (!) but also gpencil_vertex_tool, gpencil_sculpt_tool, gpencil_weight_tool ? (and that's only the gp stuff! sculpt etc is also in there)

Nice one #blender3d

Throw back to over 2 years ago?!

At that time I was developing a real-time paint stroke post-processing package for Unity. I moved on because some of the tech + learning in that unlocked an even cooler rendering pipeline that I'm using in our current game.

UI is a very overlooked part of DCC software and probably way more make or break than it's given credit for. So many people are held back just because of UI confusion. It can even break an entire workflow if there's no tech artist to help cut down the bloated interaction cost for the team.

I want to talk a bit about blender's UI design philosophy and why I think it hurts its adoption. Just as right now, the memes are Flow-ing about people opening up blender again for the hundredth time with intent to learn it, and giving up soon after.

When I joined bluesky I was kind of sad about missing out on all the cool blender developments and experiments happening.

After a lot of searching, I'm so pleased to have found it again!

I know there are many others out there but my starter pack has now reached 50 accounts!

📻 Unpopular opinion: Blender forces you to learn it's hotkeys 'cause the GUI has hidden operators and the hotkey editor is terrible - so customizing them is hard. If it's key editor was easy, and all operators exposed to the GUI, then there wouldn't need a mastery of hotkeys.
