When looking for relief for climate crisis anxiety, you'd really hope that at least professional scientific societies like the Division for Planetary Sciences of @aas.org would make climate-responsible decisions, right? They understand the science, and act based on it, right...? Apparently not 🫠

The Minor Planet Center has designated 3I/ATLAS = C/2025 N1 (ATLAS), or informally "Comet ATLAS", a new interstellar comet that is currently about 4.5 AU from the Sun and screaming through the solar system at 58 km/s (130000 mph)

The third interstellar minor planet? 😯 At its closest, it will pass just outside the orbit of Mars in October. Looking forward it!
Astronomers may have just discovered the third interstellar object passing through the Solar System!

ESA’s Planetary Defenders are observing the object, provisionally known as #A11pl3Z, right now using telescopes around the world.

Watching the new episodes of Handmaid's Tale, I noticed that Ice is pronounced the same as Eyes. #Gilead #coincidence? 👀
This is so fucked up. ICE agents in Massachusetts smashed the window of a car to grab a Guatemalan guy who was with his wife. They were waiting for their lawyer to arrive because he has a pending asylum case.

Finland votes tomorrow in county and municipal elections. In these elections, people don't even have to be citizens to vote, but also immigrants can vote after living in a specific municipality for 51 days (EU and Nordic citizens) / 2 yrs for other immigrants. If you're eligible, remember to vote!

BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency.

Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

🌍 The mission's P-band synthetic aperture radar can penetrate through the forest canopy to measure trees‘ biomass (woody trunks/branches/stems), which is where trees store most of their carbon. 🌳

European companies considering to move to the US because of the tariffs should consider the risk of the US taking the Russian approach of violating another country's sovereignty, and the toll on reputation in staying in the US in such case. We've all seen how low the threshold was for a trade war.

All stock markets should close until Trump backs off on the global tariffs. A good leader would be able to acknowledge when they make a mistake. A fool must be forced to do so.

this is why shipping migrants to third party countries is inherently a due process violation. it very literally removes them from the realm of legal process entirely.
The Trump administration claims the right to throw a man with legal status into a black hole Central American prison, affording him no due process, to admit afterward it was a mistake, and then to get snide with the judge who tells them to fix it.

That $100B tax loss is only from the *illegal* immigrants. It'll be a small fraction from the tax loss from the *legal* immigrants who move out fully voluntarily or change their plans and go anywhere else but the US.
So we could lose $200B in tourism, $100B in immigrants paying taxes, $100B in weapons manufacturing, $500B in lost tax revenue from firing IRS employees… is it sinking in yet?
International tourism is worth $200 billion every year to the US economy.

Sorry, *was.
