I made a fruitcake because my dad and spouse didn’t like the expensive one I bought from some monastery in central Kansas. The homemade one weighs 5 pounds and it’s currently being infused with rum for a couple of weeks.

The dog and I went to bed before 9pm and she’s still asleep 30 minutes past her breakfast time. Yesterday was exhausting for us both.

Today I cooked for several hours, loaded up my car and drove 25 minutes to my sister’s house. Within 20 minutes, the power went out, so we had breakfast, loaded the car and moved the party to my house. 1/

I’m finished in the kitchen for today. I followed up the rum cakes with a loaf of limpa bread and a double batch of almond toffee. Tomorrow I’ll make a half recipe of mac and cheese (we have a lot of side dishes planned).

My favorite dog feature is what we call “hall monitor.” When the cats are wrangling, I tell her, “Go take care of that,” and she hops down to put herself between them.
Dog came over to me and whined to be let outside and I said, "I can't take you out yet, there's a cat on me." She literally sighed and went to lie back down.
