Agreed. #TheNYTimes is part of the problem. I used to respect the newspaper, but those days are long gone.
To be blunter about it, the opinion pages of the New York Times are precisely one of the places where we have been failed.
If the NYT Editorial Board wants to talk about complacency, they should start by looking in a mirror.

The cruelty is the point. The inhuman bastard WANTS people to suffer.
