~40% of psyarxiv preprints contain links to open data in 2025 vs (e.g.) ~10% in 2019 (although in the latter case people mostly did not report this metadata): vuorre.com/psyarxiv-das...

When people use naive and rigid criteria about what science is, often using physics as example, and then the diversity of the many scientific fields with their different methods baffles them, they sometimes become severely reductionist and start seeing whatever is not physics as not science.

A feminist map of the Moon
What if we made a feminist map of the Moon? This is a question I posed on Bluesky in October 2024. To me, the question, methods and results ...

I keep thinking about that "great feminization" essay and specifically how *bad* it is.

No rigour. Just vibes. Just post hoc ergo propter hoc and a couple of shoddy citations. And *this* is what we're supposed to take as serious commentary on gender relations?!

Really?!

Looking forward to learning all about how the right should move left to win elections tomorrow. They should maybe dye their hair pink, learn to love pronouns.

Apparently today is International Pronouns Day.

Pronouns aren't scary, we have a bunch of them in the English language.

I answer to she/her and they/them; both feel like accurate-ish pointers to the Osnat concept bundle.

Give folks their flowers

No, I mean right now. Go tell someone you loved their work right now. They're on social media just say it, it has never been easier

"They know how much people love--" no they don't go say it right now to a composer or artist or game dev or writer or anyone AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

The number of people who will respond to "Ask me for a copy" is a tiny fraction of those who would love to click on a non-paywalled link. Don't make people ask. SocArXiv is free to share, free to read, non-profit, academy-owned at a public university. Hello! Thanks for sharing.
It's great some authors will share their work if you email them for a pdf.

But this isn't a good use of your time, or theirs.

I do think academics have more important things to do than a system where they reply one by one to every potential reader who wants to read beyond the abstract.

"This is one valuable function of shame: it reminds us of who we want to be when we fall short, a goalpost that is necessarily anchored to the lofty height that our conduct fell beneath."

Yeah, I truly do not believe this is how shame works www.bostonreview.net/articles/how...

Children loved to play with toys in #Roman times too: some 1,800 years ago, a child in Cologne was buried with a terracotta horse with a rider on wheels. It was certainly a much-loved which the child was also supposed to play with in the afterlife.
