Some #astronomy feed statistics:

Last week saw about twice as much activity on the feed - twice as many posts, from twice as many users!
A plot of the number of astronomy feed posts per week since the middle of 2023. It has held steady-ish around 400 posts/week, climbing recently to 600, and then last week jumping to 1200! A plot of the number of unique astronomy feed post authors per week since mid 2023. Last week, it jumped from around 150 to around 300.

People who study relativity like to "conformally compactify" spacetime, creating a finite patch of coordinates, and attaching a boundary. This makes it possible to talk about going to "infinity" more precisely. This turns Minkowski space into what they call a "diamond".

the image is broken up into many tens of tiles of different square and rectangle sizes. In each, is an image of a galaxy or a nebula. They are mostly spiral galaxies which are face on or edge on. IN many of these galaxies, the dark dust lanes that define the spiral arms can be made out. nine tile image in a 3 x 3 grid that shows different astrophotography of nebula and some galaxies. The nebula display vibrant colours of green and red. The galaxies are more monochrome in colour. In many of the images are lots of stars overlaying the main subject of the image.
