Did you know that Gov. Hochul's proposed budget includes a $10 million cut to library construction aid? At a time when we need libraries more than ever? If you're in New York State, take a moment to let your reps know NO CUTS TO LIBRARIES.

Increase library funding in the FY 2026 Budget and stop proposed cuts!
As a supporter of New York State’s libraries and library professionals, I am dismayed by Governor Kathy Hochul’s Executive Budget Proposal for FY2026. Despite proposing a modest $748,000 increas...

I keep forgetting to download the earc of a book at home to bring to work... because none of the library computers have adobe digital editions on them... because why would a librarian need that program???

ugh I'm actually really upset about my boss not understanding learning disabilities or understanding that someone might need accommodation

Every now and then I make the choice to disclose to someone that I'm considered profoundly learning disabled and every time I get the "BUT YOU DON'T SEEM LEARNING DISABLED" so let me make a small PSA

in an effort to remain sane i've decided to focus on local politics and we're gearing up for library advocacy season and i'm bracing myself for another year of nightmare budget cut threats.

I went out of work for three months to take care of my mother and I'm finally back and it was SO nice to come back and not have any fires to put out. I finally have a children's librarian! he's brand new out of school and enthusiastic. I'm so thrilled to be free of the J room.

i always forget i set up a library bksy until it's Saturday librarian day and there is nothing to do and the beautiful weather has everyone outside and then i'm like "anyone here" only to forget about it for another couple of weeks.

in non library news my spouse and i have gotten really into dimension 20 lately and now they want to try dming for the first time

I'm coming up on a year as a de facto children's librarian and I'm going to lose my mind if we don't get one soon. I hate being a children's librarian with an unholy passion. Kids are fine! I do not enjoy working with them for long periods of time.

What are y'all reading and/or watching? I'm reading a fan translation of a Chinese web novel called Qi Yi. And at the moment and my spouse and I are watching Dimension 20's A Crown of Candy

The Governor's proposed mask ban is completely horrifying to me on so many levels. I am not taking off my mask as an immune compromised person and I don't know what's going to happen if it gets off the ground. #noNYmaskban

OKAY EVERYONE, we are about an hour from launch of Boeing Starliner CFT. Everything is going well so far, weather is 90% go.

If you recall, the last launch on June 1 was scrubbed at T-3:50 because of a ground systems issue

Please cross your fingers 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

NASA’s Boeing Starliner Crew Flight Test Launch – June 5, 2024 (Official NASA Broadcast)
Watch live as two NASA astronauts launch from Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft as one of the final steps on the road to certification. Launch of the ULA (United Launch Alliance) Atlas V rocket and Starliner spacecraft is targeted for 10:52 a.m. EDT Wednesday, June 5 (1452 UTC) from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The two NASA astronauts aboard, flight commander Butch Wilmore and pilot Suni Williams, will test the end-to-end capabilities of the Starliner system, including launch, docking, and return to Earth. After a one-week stay docked to the International Space Station, the Starliner and crew will land under parachutes in the western United States. The launch attempt on May 6 was scrubbed due to a faulty oxygen relief valve observation on the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket Centaur second stage. The launch attempt on June 1 was scrubbed due to an observation of a ground launch sequencer. Launch coverage on NASA+ (https://plus.nasa.gov) will end shortly after Starliner orbital insertion. NASA Television (https://nasa.gov/nasatv) will provide continuous coverage leading up to docking and through hatch opening and welcome remarks. Due to continuing budget cuts in NYC I'm going to be without a children's librarian for the foreseeable future and I had to start planning for summer reading today 😭 I am not good with children. I can fake it for about 30 minutes but that's about all.

I love love love this series!
Someone just emailed to tell me they bought Laurie J. Marks's Elemental Logic series in our Spring Warehouse Sale and REALLY enjoyed it — which was quite delightful to hear. So here's a link where some of our books can be picked up in sale price bundles:
