When I was a PhD student, I wrote to President Carter asking of his relationship with Thatcher. It was a long shot & never in a million years did I believe he’d respond. He will forever be my favourite historical source & a President that I can’t not admire. I’ve read everything he’s ever said #RIP

Christmas Eve poll for
You

Tunis cake was ( according to a programme about Christmas in the 1970s - UK ) all the rage in this decade .

I remain irritated that @tescoofficial.bsky.social don’t let you use gift cards/vouchers for shopping online . This has been a source of irritation since the first lockdown and now nearly 5 years later it’s still
Not sorted 🤦🏽‍♀️

Medical historian here to remind people the start of a pandemic is based on science, while the “end” is based on politics.

Reader: we are still in a pandemic.
Folks stop referring to the pandemic in past tense I beg. Oftentimes, you mean “post-lockdown.” The pandemic is ongoing and we shouldn’t contribute to the detrimental erasure of it and its consequences.

Just seen the Christmas Day schedules . ITV and Channel 4 are pitiful - not a Single
Decent thing on all day . BBC 2 also rubbish . bbc1 has 4 programmes I’d watch so they win , but still not very good 🤦🏽‍♀️

My Top #spotify tracks of the year would be some random crap the app insisted on playing instead of what I had asked for . This would last 30 secs before I close the app and try #youtube 🤣

Latest #Greysanatomy ep was bonkers. A paediatric surgeon and an intern go to a corner shop for ice. Why did it need both of them ? Why couldn’t someone
Less essential go ? Nobody knows. Chaos ensued . Glad to see it back on form. 😉

If the saying “no fury like a woman scorned “ is true , how come it’s mostly men who murder ex partners

No idea what is up with Bluesky today but my newsfeed is full of barely dressed skeeters going “like me like me like me “ and slobbering replies from men . It’s absolutely fake and revolting . Block button is getting a good outing .

Band Aid at 40: 'We knew Christmas before your ancestors'
Forty years on, the Band Aid song continues to generate debate about the way it presents Africa.

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.
