but yeah when I moved to the Washington DC area to do my Ph.D. I was struck by how (1) it snows every year and (2) the entire population forgets that it can snow and is essentually born anew annually. They shut down *everything* at the slightest know, toilet paper flies off the shelves etc etc.

I'm now in Ottawa which is even snowier, except it's warm now creating the risk of forming the worst kind of ice, the crusty hard smooth ice over bumpy snow mounds.

I don't think it's correct because the ISP is not delivering the content creation tool but its not a trivial argument. ie I think it has a strong chance of succeeding in the current environment and definitely will be made

they would just argue that the toolmaker's relationship to the tool's apparently unintended outputs is akin to the ISP that transmits the illegal content

So why do recursive number system look the way they do? Just accepted for #EACL, preprint below. Great collaboration and very interesting results with Ponrawee, Kenny and Jennifer from Edinburgh Uni, and Andrea and Devdatt at Chalmers.

my personal view is that LLMs will never be able to provide sufficient guarantees against illegal or harmful output and the social response will be to tolerate this

I sometimes have mentally compared the whole (inferior) Harry Potter series to the (classic, far superior, more subtle and emotionally intelligent) Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper. In "The Grey King", the titular antagonist spiritually manipulates the conflicts of a Welsh shepherding village.
