Lila is extremely patient with most people, so she'd probably accept the meal with grace. She wouldn't want anyone to get in trouble with their boss.

Silly one today! They messed up your character's meal at a restaurant! It is not something they want.

What do they do?

Eat it without complaint? Politely ask for a remake? Leave without paying? Cause a scene?

Lila's favorite subject would be English, since she wants to be a writer. But her extracurricular would be cheerleading, because she secretly thinks it's cool.

Hypothetical! In an alternate reality where your characters are all going to a modern-day high school, what is their favorite subject (if any)?

Would they join any extracurriculars? Why?

Gotta love it when one of your team's players shows a complete lack of self-restraint and hands the other team a free play.

Lila is an amateur, and she's mostly emulating the methods her favorite fictional detective, so she struggles a bit at first, but she gets there eventually.

Especially since she has a trained criminal investigator helping her.

How out of their depth is your character during the story?

Are they an expert up against impossible odds? An enthusiastic amateur? Is all of this brand new to them and they are trying desperately to keep up?

The United States of my detective stories has finally come to its senses about gun control and now requires training and licensing to carry them. Those caught carrying without a license have to pay a fine (assuming they didn't use it to shoot anyone, obviously).

#JanuaryWorldbuilders!

Physical weapons are a rarity within the Library nowadays, but magic use definitely has some laws

Research, dueling, sports, performance, and training are all seen as valid applications of magic, and in fact integral to the Library's goal of investigating magic

HOWEVER

1/
Good morning, #JanuaryWorldbuilders! What kind of laws exist regarding the use of weapons in your world? Can anyone use or carry them? Are they usable only by a certain class? Or only after you've been trained in its use? Are some weapons banned entirely?
January 21, 2026 at 8:16 PM
Lila would offer to find the real culprit for whatever she's accused of.

Amber would wait quietly and find out what was going to happen to her.

And if you succeeded in locking Denala in a dungeon, her allies probably already have a plan to free her, so she'd just wait it out.

Hypothetical today!

Your characters have been arrested and thrown in the dungeon! How are they handling it?

Resigned acceptance? Angrily demanding a lawyer? Already planning their escape? Catching a nap?

Pixel Girl values her word, so a promise from her is as good as gold. This sometimes made her life as a superhero difficult, because she'd sometimes have to respond to a supervillain attack in the middle of something she promised to do.

#AwesomeCharacters
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Let's talk promises! Does your character make them easily, or does it take a lot to get them to make a promise? Does it depend on the promise, or the person?

What would it take to make them break that promise?

Pixel Girl likes JRPGs, so she'd probably be into Final Fantasy or Shin Megami Tensei. Given her powers though, she'd find it beneficial to play as many genres as possible.

#AwesomeCharacters

Hypothetical today! If you were trying to get your characters into videogames, what genre/game would you start them out on?

Would it be similar to the genre you write them in, or completely different?

I don't usually do too much of this, as I'm more of a present-focused writer. But I did find it necessary to come up with a somewhat detailed history for some fantasy gods I created in order to explain why they need mortals to do stuff for them.

#AwesomeCharacters
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Technical question today! How much backstory/history for your character have you created that isn’t part of the actual story?

Do you write it down, or is it in your head? What sort of scenarios do you explore?

The Groundhog Day Loop, especially when applied to the detective genre (think "The Man Who Died Seven Times" or "The Seven-and-a-half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle").

All the audio dramas I've been listening to lately make me want to try writing my own. I've got an idea for one that I could probably record solo eventually.

May have to finally check out the @atypicalartists.co guide like I've been meaning to.

What's your character's weird meter like?

Do they encounter strange (for their world) things? Is ordinary for them very different from ordinary for those around them?

What's the weirdest thing they've seen?

As befits any good mystery, the antagonist initially appears as a seemingly innocuous side character. Only later are they revealed as the antagonist.

What is being showcased about them?

The first side character Lila meets is Claire Chandler, one of two daughters of hotel owner Richard Chandler.

Claire is a genius inventor who created a generator that can produce electricity from sun, rain, or wind.

I had several requests for more side character questions! So, let’s talk about the first side character your MC meets on page.

Are they friend or foe? A stranger? Do they stick around or are they fleeting?

The one I'm currently plotting has the Bureau of Superhuman Affairs. They're basically this universe's version of S.H.I.E.L.D. They back up superheroes when things go sideways.

They help relocate the main character and her family after she loses her powers.

Denala must never kill the defenseless, no matter what they've done to deserve it. It's the only reason Clariss lives, despite being, by her own admission, fully deserving of Denala's revenge.

Are there any rules your character chooses to live by?

A code that guides their actions?

Have they always had it? Did it come from an external source or from inside? What are the consequences of breaking it?
