Thanks to a recent snowfall I was able to make this snow bee! I was thinking Lasioglossum, but I think this bee is a little large for that :)

There are faint lines carved in the body to define the abdomen's segments. The wings are made of dried fennel branches and the antennae are made of snapped echinacea stems. There are lines carved in the snow defining the medial and parapsidal lines of the thorax, and tegulae covering where the wings insert into the body. In the bottom of the frame there are two hiking boots that are around half the size of one bee leg for scale. An anterior (head-on) view of the snow bee. The eyes are defined but the mouthparts are indistinct.

We had a nice day in Death Valley. Perfect weather and cool to see Badwater Basin with water and reflections of the mountains. We heard that the last time was about 18 years ago.

Have you ever seen termites like these?!

Soldiers of the termite subfamily Nasutitermitinae have reduced (or absent!) mandibles, and a pointed snout at the front of their heads, which they use to defensively spray chemicals at predators! 🧪

Repostober Day 5: an older custom character of a painted grasshopper (Dactylotum bicolor)!
An anthropomorphic grasshopper stands on a light blue background. it is an off-white with numerous navy blue and orange markings that look like they're "painted" on the body. They have a broad build, with large femurs. Their tibia and femurs are crouched into an extremely digitigrade position, with elongated tarsomeres making up what would be the metapodia in a vertebrate. Their first pair of arms are more humanoid, while their lower pair end in a more traditional tarsus and pretarsus.

The Citrus root weevil, Coconut octopus, Common banded hover fly, and Calico crab!

Absolutely loving the variety in these animals, there's so much to appreciate.

Repostober day 4 (catching up): an interesting sketch from the archives: a redesign for a Neopet! I've always been a bit put off by the Buzz's design having that weird fleshy mouth. I wanted to make this redesign cute and approachable for bug lovers and phobes alike!

It is mainly blue, with a yellow underbelly and claws. Their mid-length antennae, cerci, and spiked mane are green. There is a speech bubble extending near their mouth that contains a single yellow smiley with a contented face. There is a small headshot illustration on the bottom right that demonstrates the Buzz's "split lower jaw" (written on picture) opening.

Day 3 of Repostober is an album cover redraw of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream!" This was a 2022 Art Fight attack for p34rs_ and their woolly aphid OC Erio! We love to see the hemipteran rep :)

Oops, I forgot about Day 2 of Repostober! That's... in character for me. Anyways, today I've got another character concept, this time some much older art of a fairyfly made for a friend. Parasitoid wasp designs are always underrated, so I loved the chance to draw one for someone else!
A design for an anthropomorphic fairy fly (a type of microscopic parasitoid wasp) stands on a dark blue background. They appear in mid-step and their upper left arm is held up close to their head. Their lightly jointed antennae exceed the length of half of their body. Their wings have been reduced into a stalk that rounds to a filamentous club. Their first pair of arms look more humanoid, ending in a three-fingered hand. The second pair is thin, delicate, and ends in tarsi more like a wasp's. Their coloration is warm yellows and oranges that give way to cooler blues towards the extremities, similar to a heat map or colored SEM image.

Repostober is a great idea for people who haven't quite caught up on posting all their old art (me) or don't have time to make new ones (also me)! Here's Day 1: a re-aquatic plains clubtail concept I made a while back!
An anthropomorphic plains clubtail (Gomphurus externus) stands on a light blue background. They have dark brown and desaturated yellow markings and blue compound eyes. The last few segments of their abdomen are thicker than the rest. They are in diver's gear. A scuba mask covers their head, and there are respiration tubes attached to each pair of spiracles. They are wearing flippers on their feet and wings, and their abdomen is fitted with a tadpole-like mechanical tail.
