I hate fireworks. It's so stressful for pets and people with PTSD over loud bangs. We can achieve the same 'awe' with drones and without the noise. It's so dumb.

Well 2025 is almost done (4 more hours left here on East Coast). In my more than 70 years this is absolutely the worst year of my life (there were some pretty terrible years when I was kid and some deaths of loved ones). I mean each and every day the Lying King would do or say something awful.

Apparently Americans need to be reminded yet again that we have never suspended elections during a war. Lincoln was reelected during the Civil War (a large part of why we have absentee voting), FDR during WW2. It's never been true, and scaring folks with untrue things makes you not a good person.

Watching my daughter grow up without evangelical religious trauma is breathtaking.
She’s not scared of a hell, or a god who would condemn her to everlasting torture, and she’s never heard of a rapture. Growing up without that fear really does something good to a young person.

And yeah ya gotta wonder about the first people to use these resources. I know oil was used by indigenous peoples all over as medicine, and folks later used it as a lubricant, but the first person to light it on fire must have had regrets.

Haha yes exactly! I believe the current world powers are powerful primarily because of their access to geologic resources. A head start from colonialism was useful for some of them, but the Industrial Revolution was powered by coal and the past century has been powered by coal and oil.
