Turns out you cannot, in fact, indict a ham sandwich!
Federal prosecutors on Tuesday were unable to secure a felony assault indictment against a man who threw a sandwich at a federal agent on the streets of Washington this month, according to two people familiar with the matter.

This guy maybe, MAYBE has the leadership skills to be an associate manager of an Applebee’s in a second-tier suburb
Asked about Trump's deployment of military and other federal authorities to DC, Hakeem Jeffries touts the "strong letter" issued by the DC Attorney General.

"I thought that was a strongly worded letter," Jeffries also said.

If you aren’t running on dramatic and immediate judicial reform you aren’t seriously trying to fix this country
Stunning charts show how disproportionately the Roberts Court favors the Trump regime.

"This pattern exemplifies what scholars call 'autocratic legalism'—the systematic weaponization of legal institutions to consolidate power while maintaining the appearance of legal process."

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
July 3, 2025 at 6:58 PM
They’re building the Gestapo and we’re worried about the local candidate who won’t disavow his criticism of a country that kills starving people waiting for food
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

We have a madman in the White House who is actively trying to trigger total war.

If Jeffries, Schumer, or any other Democratic leaders try to justify this, shrug indifferently, or write a strongly-worded letter and call it a day, they need to step down or be aggressively primaried.

“It should be illegal for you to be mean to me and legal for me to kill you” is basically the Republican platform.
All the Republican examples of "violent" rhetoric from Democrats is someone like Tim Walz saying "these people are assholes, you should be rude to them" and all the Republican equivalents are a guy with a top-secret security clearance tweeting "I will personally kill Ilhan Omar with a gun"

Was just arguing with a friend about this very thing last night - if you define “the problem with our party” as standing up too much for marginalized people who are under attack, then you deny that the party should stand for anything meaningful at all.
If you've been trying to put words to why all the "big tent" talk about "winning the middle" to defeat fascism that's coming from allegedly moderate alleged pragmatists seems like such wrong-minded nonsense, well I wrote all about that.

Winning the Middle
What makes for a purity test? What makes for a big tent? Unpacking the apparently pragmatic demand that we Speak Low about fascists to beat fascism.

The fight going on in the Democratic Party right now is not between hard left, left and moderate. It’s between those who want to fight and those who want to cave. And Team Fight stretches across all ideological aspects of the Party. Misread this at your own peril.

Plenty of moderates are fed up with the Vichy Dems too - this could be an inflection point
I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

Thanks as always to the totally worthless advisors/consultants who advocated for the Liz Cheney lovefest to chase nonexistent moderates over letting this man cook and continuing to call the weird people weird.
