Indie game developer. Despite the links/logos, this isn't my company's social media page, it's mine!

Poetry, code-poetry, economics, art to fill the silence and delight the curious.

I wanna try everything (he/him + ADHD + divorced from biofam + polyam).
Honestly, the thing on my mind is that the attention economy sucks. It's extremely bad and I hate it. I've posted about this before in various places on the internet; it's a rant I've practiced.

Ironically, I have to "compete" with the rest of the world for their spare time, every day. We all do.

PAY attention.

SPEND time.

We know that time is the most valuable resource anyone has. We know that you can buy time but only indirectly.

Why would anyone voluntarily spend the majority of it working?

What kind of games would you consider "required reading" if you're into the medium? Things like Half Life and Portal come to mind, but I'm more curious about games that aren't incredibly popular but are just REALLY good at what they try. The Beginners Guide comes to mind

In my professional work I did a lot of writing. Some of it is just fridge magnet poetry/MadLibs/fill in the blank. Medical professionals get sued a lot. We're not lawyers, but we create, review, and sign legal documents every day we're on the job.

If I HAVE to write something...can it be fun, too?

notes to self.

- make a point to demonstrate interest in things other people have to say. leave space.
- that means stop talking (sometimes)
- which is not the same thing as SHUT_UP.
- it means share the spotlight. we all want a turn to deliver our lines, walk the catwalk, demonstrate our rizz.

My former career was something I was well-suited to doing! I loved it for a long time. I would even go back if circumstances were different. But I will never go back to the organization I worked for before now--neither of them.

GlassDoor this isn't. Names unlisted because blame isn't the point.

The thing is that I never had a relationship with my biological family that felt good and I was basically raised by MS-DOS.

There’s a real chance that we staring down a new pandemic in the form of bird flu. It could never happen or happen in the coming months. And we are in the process of decimating our core national public health and infectious disease service.

This is the town square, right? Apparently the way modern discourse works is that we shout with bullhorns and sometimes other people find what you have to say interesting.

Since you should never shout fire in a crowded theater, I want to emphasize that I am not trying to cause a widespread panic.

I'm not going there.

I realized I was old when I realized I hated websites that were trying to "appify."

I'm on the wrong side of that trend and need to change my position. I'm starting to like them. BUT. I get frustrated when the desktop client is an inferior user experience compared to the mobile app.

Whenever you hear someone sneer about scientific research that seems useless to them — “they’re studying the spit of lizards?!” — remind them that’s exactly how we got Ozempic.

In 1984, Dr. Daniel Drucker, an endocrinologist from the University of Toronto, discovered a hormone that helped pave the way for popular diabetes drugs such as Ozempic.

Andrew Wilson’s compensation package for 2024 was roughly $25.6M.

You give me $20M of that and I can finance a decently-sized indie studio for damn-near a decade.
Anybody positing that the problem with the games industry is that devs are too expensive is gonna get an instant block. For the cost of one EA CEO you could afford 213 devs making $120k apiece.

Read the room, my dudes; a LOT of very skilled people are out of work right now. Profits are trickling up

okay so

I grew up on these games, they're *actually* part of the story of how I got together with my now-husband, and we seriously considered naming our dog Guybrush

and I DID NOT KNOW THIS
the origin of the name Guybrush Threepwood is one of my favorite things in video games

they didn’t have a name for the Monkey Island protagonist at the time so they saved the sprite as “guy”

the file was a “brush” file in Deluxe Paint so the artist saved it as “guybrush.bbm”

and, well, it stuck
im guybrush threepwood
