Thanks to Matthew Sears for co-writing this piece with me for the @theglobeandmail.com: it was fun! Our focus is on the broader meaning of a quote from 5th c. BCE historian and general Thucydides' Melian Dialogue used by Mark Carney in his Davos speech. www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...
Opinion: ‘Might is right’ led to the Athenians’ downfall. Trump should heed their warning – and Carney’s
Hegemons eventually fall victim to the consequences of the brutal world they help to forge. America would be wise to learn that just treatment is in everyone’s interests

ICE murdered Renée Good in broad daylight. Less than 3 weeks later, they killed Alex Pretti, shooting him 10 times. Every day, we watch as people are ripped from their cars, their homes, their lives.

We can't allow ourselves to look away from this cruelty. Abolish ICE.

I was just denied access to the ICE processing center at the Whipple Building.

Members of Congress have a legal right and constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight where people are being detained.

The public deserves to know what is taking place in ICE facilities.
JUST NOW: Huge mass of agents in a standoff, weapons drawn as Reps. Ilhan Omar, Angie Craig, and Kelly Morrison attempt to conduct congressional oversight at the Whipple Building, which has been HQ for thousands of ICE agents.

Another week, more cutting of the humanities. Bur the data remain clear: cutting the humanities for ‘relevance’ or ‘finances’ is bad logic. It’s a constructed narrative too many people uncritically buy into. There are better reasons not to cut us. But it’s worth calling out these dangerous myths.

The IOF stormed the town of Al-Maza'a Al-Sharqiyah in the West Bank and stole an ancient column from it!
Does the leadership of @asor-research.bsky.social - who had no problem hosting and partying with many 🇮🇱 archaeologists at their congress 2 weeks ago - have anything to say?

Once again urging archaeologists to critically assess the AI push into archaeology. There is a huge swath of problematic ethical issues that come with the AI tech & tech lords & we don't have to make it easier for them to insert themselves in archaeology by welcoming them in. Don't be complicit.
