Happy #WorldHippoDay! 🦛❤️

To celebrate here’s a lovely naturalistic painting of a hippo on a small flake of limestone. Painted by an Egyptian artist some 3,500 years ago!

Is it possible that it's a secret third thing? That studying the human condition, combined with the relative brokeness that resulted from defunding, increasing wealth inequality, and the corporatization of higher ed, inclines one to more progressive views & Mellon's politics are an effect not cause?

Ah, I take back my outrage, someone with such a nuanced understanding of consent and power was surely doing a responsible job with his class on *checks notes* mythologies of rape. Thankfully, he shared his incisive commentary: Epstein did nothing particularly wrong

Not exactly shocking news but it's worth noting that Hubbard seems to have requested money from Epstein to fund an anti-Title IX conference (something in line with, say, his class & multiple conference talks about how women are regularly making false rape claims)

Former UT Professor Thomas K. Hubbard wrote a letter to convicted sex offender Jeffery Epstein requesting funds for a conference critical of new Title IX rules.

Volunteers w/ Safe Haven wait at the gate & do sweeps of the woods, with warm clothes, a burner, and a ride home, "so no one is left alone at the gate."

I spent the evening outside the Whipple federal building in Minneapolis, where the feds have been releasing people they detained — often for no discernible reason — into the freezing cold... wearing whatever little clothing they had on at the time they were taken.

Appreciate the list of ways to run the damn ball from @channel6.bsky.social -- everything is awful but it helps a bit to know ways to do more than just (persistently, fueled by burning rage) call my reps every day on my drive to work. Every little bit helps!

This FCS championship game is perfect. I'm not sure the remaining CFP games (games full of teams in legitimately excited to see make it this far in the first place) even have a chance at beating this viewing experience
