London. I make The Lost Cat Podcast, I make music, I make movies, I post a lot of nerdy shit about these sorts of things.

All typos are to prove I am not AI. thank you.

I keep looking for the people using AI as a tool for expression - as this is the actual path to the future of art - after the hype and the bubbles and the righteous indignation have gone.

This is closest so far:

The very absolutely best bit of Star Wars is when ESB cuts back to the Falcon as it is desperately flying through the asteroid belt to avoid the Imperials.

There's no plan, no complexity, no strategic goal, no macguffin, just deep, in media res, ADVENTURE. All the plates spinning, at once. Yeah!

After nearly 30 years of happily not thinking about The Ben Folds Five, I have had The Battle Of Who Could Care Less in my head for a full week now.

Letterboxd etiquette is getting me this morning: the balance between only liking reviews that specifically give me something new, liking all the ones by yer mates just coz, and just generally liking any review that's kinda nice.

People getting rabid over movies & filmmakers failing their purity tests and I dunno man. It’s movies, not global politics. If Eric Trump decided he wanted to direct action movies I bet I would watch that shit religiously. Movie stars are knuckleheads. Studios are evil. Find your heroes elsewhere.

I went long on STARFISH, a movie I did not like, but contains many valuable lessons:

So: no. Absolutely not. But still... It is extremely easy to rag on all the Please-God-Never-Do-This film making going on and, as I watched the whole damn thing, holy hell I am totally going to do thi...

I was learning Leonard Cohen songs, just in case. Then I got distracted and wrote a song called 'Learning Leonard Cohen Songs'. Here it is. Every horror comes true, and no-one will be spared I'm prag

I am increasingly against the feature-length movie - a stubborn hangover from a cinema culture of 100 years ago - with its looping programme of shorts, newsreels, B Movies and Featured Movies. Let it go.

It’s been gratifying lately to hear some nice feedback for my book 3,190 NEW IDEAS BEFORE BEDTIME. It had not occurred to me that readers might find the book ‘helpful’, but apparently the ideas are being used to generate writing prompts, as oblique strategies, and for bibliomancy.

1989 was when I first really got into music, so it was a life changing year for me. The album was Queen's The Miracle, so I think I can speak to both sides of this 1989 debate.

It's been so long since i've worked in an office, i forget most topics of chat are literally just to have something to talk about, like meercats making noises that mean nothing more than 'i'm OK, are you OK'. It is a good thing, and doesn't need to mean anything.

Because fucking CRUMPETS? Sheesh!

Yesterday I did reshoots for my short film AND shot a second one.

This is great, but I do want to point out what we did afterwards: we were gonna have a drink and watch Halloween movies, but instead we all went home and slept. We were pooped!

This part, also, is the life of an artist. :)

This, I think, is a useful frame for AI. Synths were absolutely technology that replaced human artistry. Only when synths were used to create unique sounds, as a tool for expression, did they find a place in the future.

So until the AI guys talk like this, all they are selling is advertising.
"Synths can sound like anything: Like yearning and desire, like interdimensional transcendence, like violence and elegance all wrapped up in one. They can sound like the future, and now even the past."
