It's a small miracle that despite being a massive hit and a cultural phenomenon, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial never got turned into a franchise or sequelled to death. It gets to live as its own fully-contained story, with John Williams' beautiful piano piece being the final word.

I listened to one (1) podcast episode about perovskite solar panel technology, and then my Google Discover panel hounded me for months with links to perovskite content. I eventually came to my senses and shut that feature off.
bro every aspect of online life has just become me trying to hide from clippy’s nosy ass. this is just 1999 all over again. i open any app or page and there he is, clippy’s ghost, in the form of AI or algorithms, spying on and meddling in my life choices

I understand the argument about progressive upstarts' lack of experience in political office being a liability. But like also ... so is the head of the Republican Party of the last ten years.

Clean Energy accounted for all electricity growth this year. Gas/Coal were basically a wash and will be for years to come for electricity generation.

We need to ramp up batteries because they are 90% cheaper than distribution grid upgrades which is the main reason we have rate increases.

Plug-in Solar Rising

Utah passed law, exempting solar systems 1,200 watts or smaller from interconnection rules.

If 5 plus states adopt reforms, study forecasts:

Cost of plug-in solar falls to ~$0.50/watt & payback to 3-4 years.

24 million homes use it!

TRAIN DREAMS is pretty great. A thoughtful and quiet movie that is bracingly honest but still deeply empathetic and kind. And filmed in my beautiful home state!

If there is one graph/idea I wish the public understood, it would be this.
This is the other one. With fossil fuels, discovery costs rise while tech costs fall, meaning prices stay roughly the same (inflation-adjusted) over time. With electrotech, discovery costs are $0, so the only dynamic is falling tech costs. Victory is inevitable.

Chris Thile and Jon Batiste/Stay Human crew jamming out is a top 5 Colbert Late Show moment for me. For the life of me, I don't know why the main channel doesn't host it. I frequently revisit it in hard times.

Key Rs told Politico "Democrats had dominated them on the energy affordability issue—an issue for which they have no solutions...blocking offshore wind and spreading misinformation about green energy isn’t helping a single voter pay her utility bill."

Quote posting to remind myself of this, and also to seek out the antidote.
New from me: I went deep on the way that generative AI and chatbots act as wormholes, pushing us deeper into our own minds. They threaten to compound the problems of algorithmic targeting that have festered unaddressed for years and years—what comes next may be even more alienating and isolating (🎁)

Pretty elite game Messenger is playing to have mutually exclusive features in the app and the browser. Or to have some things break in one and not the other. I love it when a friend sends a gif and I have to check my computer to see it (or the other way around!)
