"For a century, the BBC has been our classroom, our concert hall, our stage, our storyteller and our window on the world. Politicians need reminding: its much more than a news channel."
Defending our national treasure: the voice of the nation

#Boro 's season in a nutshell Held our own against the best side in the league, but our very obvious problems let us down. Hellberg must be happy. We're very close to a cracking side, but lots for him to work on.

Currently we're doing OK despite some of our players, not because of them.

It's been a good while since I've had the opportunity to watch an entire day's test cricket from first ball to last.

Really couldn't have picked a better day to do it again.

This will almost certainly be the only chance I get in this series. 🤣

Ah, the joys of host nation cricket commentary.

"I think England looked soft. They didn't look like they were even trying.

At least we (Aus) look like we're trying."

Note: it took them 5 overs to score a run and they're currently 4/41

Really can't beat a bit of #Ashes craziness. How many wickets are we going to get on the first day?

What happened between 2013 and 2023 to cause such horrific levels of poverty 🤔
🚨 NEW: The UK saw the largest increase in relative child income poverty of 37 high-income countries between 2013 and 2023, an increase of 34%, new research from UNICEF UK shows.

If the two-child limit stays in place, child poverty will continue to rise. Is this really a record we want?

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

Looks like Gremlins 3 has been confirmed. Is that a good or bad thing? I mean, I was 8 when the original came out, so i'm all for it. But what would a new one even look like?

This is really sad news. I first tried Rogue here in KL in 2012, and while other brewers have come and gone, they've been an ever present on the craft beer scene.

Happy #Caturday from a rainy KL, where snooziness has been the order of the day. After the relentless heat of the last few weeks, nice for a little cool.

NB: in this context "cool" is 27c.

The #Bond stories swirling around seem bollocks. Like some bored writer at a media outlet decided to make shit up.

Because if it's really true that #Amazon have wound themselves into a continuity based state of creative paralysis coz Bond died, then they're dumber than I already think they are.

No matter how bad a Prime Minister Starmer has turned out to be, a disappointment in every way - for every decent step forwards, he takes two gob-smackingly poor ones backwards straight away...

I would vote for him every day and twice on Sundays if Wes Streeting was the other choice.

#BBC being jumped on by the left & right for bias towards the right & left.

The issue of the last 10 years wasn't bias. That's just a symptom. It's that they have an existential crisis every time someone scolds them, then tries to please that group rather than telling them to go fuck themselves

Yes, #Boro!

This was a much needed win with or without the noise of this week.

Very proud. Local lads leading the way. Fuck the chatter, this season is still ours. Over to Gibbo to get someone in to see it through.
