Like I’m socialist because I’m Muslim. I’m not practicing in a lot of ways anymore but the belief that you are responsible for your neighbors — your 7th neighbor as the saying goes— is so embedded in the faith and its practice.

In this article Hyman is surprised that installment credit has taken off, given its historical association with repossession. It does seem strange that people are willing to pay well over the odds to use rent-to-own or BNPL. Our research with users of these products helps to make sense of it.
So grateful for this and @dalie.bsky.social important work on debt. Our research has similar findings – that people are increasingly overwhelmed with ever more debt types, just to get by. In our paper www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti..., we show how the constant juggling directly impacts health.

We are all so accustomed to palestinians dying violently that reporting it is mainly a way of reporting a geopolitical development (i'm not criticizing anyone-we all do it!). For any other group 9 people being violently killed is a notable tragedy; for palestinians it's a tuesday (under ceasefire)

This is a novel organizing win — and it didn't come through a lawsuit. It came from collective tenant organizing directly against their creditor/landlord. Workers can withhold their labor to win. Tenants can hold their payments to win too.
