The reduction of collective life by both capitalist and state-socialist economies to a single criterion excludes the possibility of addressing human needs. Our podcast of the week instead theorizes a "multicriterial economy."

🚨 Today, Common Wealth launches the Green Planning Commission.

A major new initiative to tackle the twin crises of our era: climate breakdown & the affordability crisis.

To meet these challenges, we need a new era of democratic planning.

Reading the ultra wealthy complain about a French wealth tax proposal (“It’s collectivism, it’s communism . . . it’s a fundamental attack on my freedom and right to property.”) brings a little warmth and joy to my otherwise cold and sad heart.

I really enjoyed reading @abenanav.bsky.social’s vision for a new kind of economic system — one where we have more authority over production and more freedom in our lives.

It entails using technology in a very different want, and by extension building it much differently too.
The technologies we have are shaped by our society and the economic incentives that drive their development.

This week @abenanav.bsky.social joins @parismarx.com to discuss his vision for a more democratic, equitable economy and what it means for tech.

I really feel like this—wartime level government spending—plus the continuation of out and out elite plunder, is the main thing going on in the US economy these days.

On my way to Montreal for SASE 2025. We’ll have a running theme, throughout the conference, of new thinking about economics after the end of capitalism.

I’m excited to present my new work and to debate with others. See you there!
