Hi science tweeps,

Thought experiment: If you were to (have to) replace a BD FACS Aria III sorter, what would you replace it with?

A new BD or a sturdy alternative?

Needs to be multi user, for multiple applications and tissues and organisms because that’s how we roll.

Comments open for tips!

This was me. Terminated from #NIMHBSC with no explanation. Complete gov interference in the #NIH intramural research program oversight and review - telling NIH researchers what science they can do and who can do it. Not a positive outlook for scientific discovery, innovation, or health. 👇👇
Thirty-eight of 43 experts cut last month from the boards that review the science and research that happens in laboratories at the National Institutes of Health are female, Black or Hispanic, according to an analysis by the chairs of a dozen of the boards.
Women, minorities fired in purge of NIH science review boards
Scientists, with expertise in fields that include mental health, cancer and infectious disease, typically serve five-year terms and were not given a reason for their dismissal.

THIS is outrageous and scary! RFK making his own journal that appears to be associated with a medical society. There is no such thing as the Academy of Public Health! They can use this to make false claims in medicine and science, including for vaccines. These are not peer reviewed nor scientific!

Not good for the future of academia or research. We will lose our younger talent to other careers. Unclear what the endgame is here 👇

Trainees and early career scientists have endured the chaos and stress of the pandemic and now this. How can we possibly think this career and how it’s being destroyed every single day could look appealing to them? I can barely breathe - cannot imagine how they feel looking at the future of science👇

I wrote a piece for @thetransmitter.bsky.social www.thetransmitter.org/sex-differen... With the fate of NIH-funded research uncertain, it is extra important that the work we do now is most likely to benefit everyone. Adhering to SABV in the lab and in grant & paper review is the right thing to do.
Amid NIH upheaval, how to keep sex as a biological variable
Even in the absence of formal instruction to do so, we should continue to hold our colleagues accountable for SABV practices.

#NCI - how is ‘obesity’ controversial in research and now a flagged term? 👇👇👇
The National Cancer Institute (part of NIH) released new guidelines for "controversial, high-profile or sensitive" keywords that require "review prior to publication" if included in a product or materials.

Keywords include abortion, obesity, and peanut allergies.
