➤ At the same time, Amnesty says it “documented evidence” of sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence during the attacks but adds it “could not reach conclusions on the scope or scale of the sexual violence.” ⭕️ The organization says it collected evidence that “indicated that rape was likely committed.” That assessment relies on the following: ➤ One man who told Amnesty he was raped—reiterating his media testimony about being pinned down, stripped naked and raped by armed men at the Nova site; Amnesty says it reviewed his medical records and spoke to his lawyer but could not definitively conclude he or others were raped. ➤ And one therapist who claimed she provided treatment to three rape survivors. No information on the survivors, their testimony, or medical records was shared in report. Amnesty also reviewed anonymous reports in other outlets of: ➤ one woman who said she was raped ➤ several people who said they witnessed or heard rape or sexual assault ➤ mental-health professionals whose clients reported witnessing rape or sexual assault while fleeing Nova 👉 However, Amnesty could not interview these individuals themselves or determine overlap between accounts. 👉 Access to survivors, they write, was extremely limited: “Except for one case, it was unable to interview people who reported surviving or witnessing sexual violence.” 👉 Amnesty contacted at least 45 alleged witnesses or survivors, and most declined. ⭕️ Two returned captives have said in other reports that assailants touched them in intimate areas during the attacks, including one woman who described being subjected to sexual violence while being abducted from Nir Oz during a UN hearing. 🔴 No other evidence of rape or sexual violence on October 7 was presented. 🟢 Amnesty also writes it “did not find evidence that Hamas or other Palestinian armed groups gave orders to their fighters to commit acts of sexual violence.”
