Social movements are strong when the rowdy and the peaceful elements work in solidarity with one another. The myth of the provocateur is spread specifically because it undermines that solidarity.

It seems appropriate right now to try to clarify one of the most basic questions America is (or should be) struggling with: What does it mean to be a human being?

The confusion is mounting. Let me share some thoughts. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/what-are-human-beings

Just watched the 2025 Frankenstein film, having finished reading the novel on Monday. My review: It felt like someone read the CliffsNotes version 2 decades ago then wrote the script based on their memory of the novel.

Also, knowing much of the history, ending with a quote from Byron pissed me off.

Just saw a Scientologist in the wild at the post office.

Having worked in mental health non-profits, I can confidently say DO NOT trust them in anything to do with it.

Stop calling it war. These are terrorist attacks being committed by the US government. Every foreign nation should be lining up sanctions.

Remember how appalled we all were in 2022 when Russia completely unprovoked attacked Ukraine? That is what we’re doing tonight with Venezuela. We are the bad guys here. Everyone who supports this is supporting unprovoked murder. Fuck every last one of them

Three million people live in Caracas, five million in the metro area. It's one of the densest cities in South America. Remember this in the morning when they try to spin this as anything other than a cold-blooded attack on a major civilian center.

If Maduro is in custody my expectation is the admin will try to hold Dumb Nuremberg. They'll make it a judicial referendum on fentanyl and try to blame Maduro for the deaths from the opiate crisis.

So the 'Peace President' has bombed a country and kidnapped the leader and their spouse, without any provocation.

Part of the additional emotional & mental load experienced by minorities that isn't often discussed is having to be constantly prepared.

Having to remain aware of the latest hate directed at people like you so you're prepared with rebuttals & the latest science whenever you next encounter bigotry.

I haven't been in the best mental space since the car crash on Xmas Eve, so I have decided to cheer myself up by buying a new vibe.

...

...

An MG3 Vibe, that is.

(Yes, I know that was awful. I will see myself out.)

A car crash was not how I wanted to start my break.

I'm physically OK other than some bruising, but feel awful (it was my fault) and my car is a write-off. The crumple zone sure did crumple.

Fuck the NSW Government for using the tragedy of the Bondi attack to crack down on protests. This is vile opportunism, using a nation's shock and the family's grief to silence their opponents.
Minns denies gun and protest laws overhaul a 'knee-jerk reaction' to Bondi
NSW parliament looks likely to pass what would be the strictest gun laws in Australia.

Crazy how Trump is flailing, Epstein files are coming out, the economy is going to shit, and Republicans are defecting and the first thing his admin does is pivot to attacking trans people. It's all they know. Just distract everyone from what's important by attacking a vulnerable minority group.

rewriting a more realistic script for The Lord of the Rings. Frodo just stays home and we watch thirteen hours of him cooking meals and reading books. every hour or so he glances at a newspaper and goes, "Oh shit what's happening in Rohan? That's fucked." Then he goes to the pub to drink with Sam.

"Oh, you want to protect female athletes, name three who competed last year in the sport you're going on about"

remains undefeated as a discerning device because truly all these people **do not give two shits about women's sports**
They developed the "high school girl's sports" angle as a wedge issue, to lever their way up to full society-wide discrimination. What's endlessly stunning to me is how many purported liberals a) helped them when it started & b) are still helping them even after the larger purpose has become clear!
