Polar Bear in Svalbard
The morning light backlights the impressive polar bear at the edge of this rock. The sun creates soft backlighting around this massive body in this B&W art photograph. Overall a calm and serene atmosphere came through the morning light. Did you know that scientists can extract DNA from just a polar bear’s footprint in the ground? Incredible! Two small samples of snow from a polar bear track revealed not only the DNA of the polar bear that made it but even from a seal, it had recently eaten. https://anettemossbacher.com/photograph/polar-bear-edge-bw/

'Lean On The Land'

Sadly this tree has lost its shape to recent storms over the past few years. The tree has been dead for a number of years so it had been on borrowed time.

The ancient oaks of Dartmoor are gnarled and full of life, from fungi, lichen and ferns growing throughout. The colours are fabulous in autumn, from greens to yellows, and even orange. I just loved capturing these scenes.

I wonder what it was like attending school at this little one-room schoolhouse in southwestern North Dakota. I found some info that suggests this school was built around 1910.

A small one-room schoolhouse on the plains. The school is viewed from the rear corner of the school. A brick chimney is still standing but is separated from the building, leaning slightly away from the building. There are six windows on the side of the school. Some of the windows are broken. The door in the entryway is closed but the window there is broken. A flagpole extends above the building. The roof is mostly intact, covered in wooden shake shingles, with only a few small holes. Surrounding the building are dried brown and gold prairie grass. Further behind the school is the stubble of a harvested wheat field covering rolling hills. Further behind is a grass-covered hill. The sky above is filled with clouds that appear blue and gray.
