Of course, sexy racialised Heathcliff is a whole other problem as hinted at earlier in the thread. The exoticised and fetishised racialised man as the object of the white female gaze is the other side of this. There's no way to win... if you foreground the white female gaze. 107/

When people say that Wuthering Heights doesn't have anything to do with race or that no film has engaged with race, what they mean is that for them Romani people do not count and they also haven't been paying attention. I'm going to share a little material from a recent talk. Content note: racism 1/

Amrapali is really good
Netflix just added a bunch of classic Hindi cinema, which is great.

But they now have more pre-1980 Indian films (16) than American ones (11), so nobody tell Brendan Carr. #FilmSky

Got around to a Hindi crime classic, a classic noir that I found hugely disappointing and one good and one really good film w/ Tatsuya Nakadai. I was binging his films a few years back and it was both a) hugely rewarding and b) cemented him as my favourite actor ever so it was nice to return to that

Literal declaration of intent to continue war crimes. That's fine on Bluesky Dot Com, a website apparently named for where the missiles come from when you are minding your business in the Caribbean
this is a far more explicit death threat from people with the actual means to carry it out

Good morning/afternoon!

As of 5 days ago, our Airalo partner account has started using $1000 of data a day in top ups.

We are going to quickly run out of funds to reimburse. With your steady support we can prevent that from happening!

also salt on the wound that European and American left liberals jerk off about this as evidence of the entirely hypothetical benevolent humanitarian-interventionist internationale while actually existing US and Europe co-signed a dozen Srebrenicas a week for two years in the Levant

as a bosnian, i cannot accept this depoliticization of the mass murder that was directed against us. to brazenly claim that the violence has "no political or religious motivation" is beneath common sense. it harms any understanding of what happened in sarajevo and bosnia
“There were no political or religious motivations. They were rich people who went there for fun and personal satisfaction. We are talking about people who love guns who perhaps go to shooting ranges or on safari in Africa.” www.theguardian.com/world/2025/n...

Lot of people are already passing this around with the usual "WHY ISN'T ANYONE DOING ANYTHING" shrieks, while ignoring the fact that the article literally says that this is a *significant* decrease from the warming that we were on track for even a few years ago.
World still on track for catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise, report finds
Fossil fuel emissions have hit a record high while many nations have done too little to avert deadly global heating

We do this constantly in Britain, usually by saying: “My new book is coming in April! ‘Travesty of Horseshit: How everyone was lying about the catastrophic events, and we all knew but repeated their drivel and kept quiet for five years about the bad stuff’, at all good bookshops RRP £14.99”.
every few years it's revealed that the NYT was sitting on information about some horrific thing that public knowledge of would have changed the country's course and for some reason a ton of people still give them money. you can play those games on other sites

Ends what little judicial independence Pakistan had left and legally enshrines a permanent military dictatorship. Whenever I talk about Pakistani politics with my mother we’re always left incredibly depressed. Some real bastards run that country.
🇵🇰 NEW: Pakistan’s parliament has passed the 27th Amendment, enshrining permanent military supremacy over state institutions. The reform cements Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s control over all armed forces, grants him lifelong legal immunity, and subordinates the judiciary to the executive...

Watched Kobayashi’s The Inheritance for Nakadai, who is a supporting character, and what a fantastically nasty noir. There’s not even a pretense of a twist, instead upfront having the seemingly innocent secretary narrating the story of her swindling her boss with unrepentant pride.

My workplace uses a VPN (frankly, many large companies do) so how do they expect this to work 🫠
The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

The UK tech minister has said a VPN ban is on the table.

underrated Tatsuya Nakadai recommendation: Hideo Gosha's Heat Wave, a period yakuza film that feels like Lady Snowblood + Red Peony Gambler. an extremely good-looking film about a gambler looking to avenge her father's murder, but she unfortunately discovers that the evildoer is a babe.
