I want to very gently say something, and I hope nobody will be mad: If somebody on the internet says something that is NOT about politics and NOT about how terrible everything is, it’s a kindness not to reflexively make a comment (in jest or not) that brings it back to those things.

A friend recently texted me the same thing. “Do you really not use ChatGPT?!” It was a sign of where we are culturally on this. People are compelled to use it but also starting to question the normalcy?
Recently met someone who was very surprised to hear I didn’t use ChatGPT or any LLM.

I said my job depended on doing distinctive work. That was my selling point. If I started to sound like ChatGPT and turn out what it did, then how on earth could I justify doing it? What would that make me?

He just got a trillion dollar package, and sure it's bullshit and imaginary but still, imagine inking a deal where you get a trillion dollars, more than anyone has ever had, and then going to your little computer and asking it to make a fake woman who pretends to like you. Weapons-grade cringe.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Yes, I know the demon has eaten my children and is in the process of burning down my village. Yes, I understand that feeding the demon requires us to let it poison our well and not only eat our cattle but make them all infertile, too. Yes, yes, I get it. But have you seen the funny pictures I makes?

I can’t believe I’ve moved to a country whose opposition leadership no longer want me to be able to stay. I have a good job and a family, and I’m even from a closely related culture and am acculturating further.

The truth about Trump and his lackeys is that they actually hate America, and Americans. They can't stand who we actually are, and so they are trying to erase it and replace it with a white bread nostalgic America which never actually was.

He is the anti-patriot.

I would once again like to register my absolute rage at @sergeyager.bsky.social for showing me that enjoying good coffee is super chill and nice. I can't drink bad coffee anymore and I'm buying a pourover setup to have at work and finding new roasters. Wait did I say rage? I meant joy. Absolute joy.

Kathleen worked so hard on this adventure and it’s so good—it’s SO good. It’s hilarious and creative (and playtesters had a blast).

On the page it says she “developed the story”, but I think that undersells that she wrote every dang word. It rules.
