This week's next piece is, dare I say, the most complete exploration of hybrid mana in cube design ever written.

Researching this piece surprised me... I would have never guessed Red's first all-upside 2/2 at 2MV, and I bet you won't either.

The Risks Of Hybrid Mana — Lucky Paper
Hybrid mana is a frequent design tool for Wizards and for the Cube designers who follow in their footsteps. But hybrid cards exhibit some predictably risky tendencies in Cube. Read on to find out why,...

TWO new #mtgcube articles this week? You better believe it.

First up, my thoughts on ATLAxMTG. ATLA was my favorite TV show as a teen. The set may be a good product, but if so, that's in spite of Magic's game engine, not because of it:

The Game Design Pitfalls of Crossovers — Lucky Paper
We're living in an age where Magic embraces crossovers. The effects that crossovers have on the quality of the game design itself have largely flown under the radar -- until now.

I've got a new cube idea! I'm not sure if it's going to be any good yet, but I'm taking this opportunity to try and capture my entire cube design process in video form. This is the first video about the concept and the inspiration behind it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=27Ak...

I got to thumb through this at Cube Con and it looks really cool. Love seeing cubes with such harsh restrictions on cards they can include!
I went pretty hard on expanding my white bordered (bar) cube into a full 360 cube for 8 players. My intent is to submit to Shoebox for consideration.

Please take a look at my Cube Vision and maybe do a test draft! Let me know if there are outliers that shouldn't be included for gameplay reasons.

I had 100 Ornithopters in the open play area at Cube Con and looking through the cube after the weekend to see the 3-0 alters I was heartbroken to find that someone drew OVER @klugalters.bsky.social's incredible Ornithopter. I assume someone thought it was just a different printing of the card? 😭😭😭

What are some examples of decks in any context using off-color cards? I.e. reanimator decks playing reanimation targets they can’t cast, Ovalchase Daredevil or Squee in decks without the mana to cast them just as repeated discard fodder, or hopefully more creative things I’m not aware of.

This week’s episode is another one of my favorites: a cube design iron chef, with Genesis Wave as the featured ingredient. Listen in as @anthony.luckypaper.co and I demonstrate how you can use one card you love as the starting point for a whole cube luckypaper.co/podcast/274-...

Who am I seeing at @cubecon.org next week?

I'm _probably_ going to bring 100 Ornithopters with me to organize a side draft or two, as a lot of people have told me they want a chance to play it.
Who is coming to CubeCon next week? I want to remind everybody that CubeCon always kicks off with a free Day Zero event at my store @mistymountaingames.com! There will be tons of open Cubing and great times! Please ponder attending! @cubecon.org

This post was in reaction to the same exact 57 minutes of sound lmfao. We are not the same.
Met some game designers at Wasteland and started asking myself why I make cubes instead of games. Then I came back to all of this UB discourse and felt doubly unmotivated toward Magic. But after listening to 10 minutes of LPR, I want to cube so damn bad. What are they putting in this podcast?

Guy listens to ONE of the 2-3 episodes per year where we actually address Magic more broadly instead of SPECIFICALLY FOCUSING ON THE ASPECTS WE LOVE LIKE WE DO EVERY SINGLE WEEK. I rate this listener 0 out of 5 stars.

Fun game @phantooom.bsky.social just invented: for each evergreen keyword ability, what is the card that uses it best? For example: Celestial Colonnade is the best use of vigilance, Ball Lightning is the best use of Trample, etc.
