The Midwest Book Review, which is a huuuge review site for libraries and academic institutions, just reviewed the first three books of my series. And they loved them!

Aftermath of the great snowstorm of 2026. 9" / 23 cm of snow on the car.

We ended up shovelling 3 times yesterday, and it was even deeper in other spots because of the drifts.

I really need to buy a snowblower.

The emotional and physical cost of time travel is what hits my MCs the hardest. They find themselves in some of the toughest battles of history, and they don't leave unscathed. Both bear mental and physical wounds that need time to heal.

Unfortunately, I'm an early riser, so I had to do the first round of roughly 6"/15 cm by myself, while my tall strapping sons slept in.

They get rounds 2, 3, 4, and onwards, though! (We're expecting a lot of snow today.)

There's three rules to surviving as a nightrunner: don't get comfortable, don't be a hero, and don't be unlucky.

Corado's about to break all three.

Other than the actual aspect of time travel, everything else in my series is highly realistic. I dump my characters into real historical events where they meet real historical people. And I try to give my characters realistic responses to their situations.

Dan Renfrew comes from a long line of time-jumpers--secret heroes who travel to the past to resolve glitches that could alter history. Unfortunately, no one told him about this--and he just accidentally sent himself to 1066 England.

Projects? Unfortunately my day job has been really killing my writing time. However, I am still finding some time to:
- Do final edits for Ordeal at Orleans (bk 5)
- Do round 85 of edits on The Roman Betrayal (bk 6)
- Finish The Fall of the Great City (bk 7)

The year has ended and I still haven't finished book 7 in my series. However, after a lot of setbacks and digressions, the words are finally starting to flow, so I am confident that 2026 will be the year when my series is FINALLY finished.

I actually work in AI, so I can see its uses for things like designing new drugs or identifying illnesses from genetic traits.

But I absolutely HATE how most people have stopped using their brain and let AI do all the thinking for them.
I'm a generative AI/LLM hater and proud to be one. I support *human* creativity.

If you are, too, pass it on
(repost/requote/whatever)

Give me the joy and delight of seeing my feed populated with nothing but people hating on the tech & those that use it

Happy Winter Solstice everyone!

Hopefully the coming winter won't be too rough. Although, considering that we've already had -12 C weather, I'm anticipating a pretty frigid January and February.

It's Christmas, meaning time for my yearly public service announcement regarding "runic" stuff for the Viking fan in your life. If you see "FUTHARK' on the item (circled in the image), then you are just buying something with an alphabet. No history. No deep meaning. Just Vikings ABCs.

Since I'm writing a series, I get to send my characters on a grand tour of time. They go to:

Bk 1 - 1066 England
Bk2 - 60 Wales
Bk3 - 1179 Mongolia
Bk4 - 480 BCE Greece
Bk5 - 1429 France
Bk6 - 90 Rome
Bk7 - 1203 Constantinople

Since I'm writing a YA time-travel historical fiction series, complete with teenage heroes, evil villains, and lots of journeys into the past to fix glitches, my one-line pitch is "Harry Potter meets Quantum Leap"

#Writesky
For publishers, it was "Andy Weir's THE MARTIAN meets Naomi Alderman's THE POWER."

For readers, it's "When a time-travel mishap strands an anthropologist in a matriarchal world, he’s forced to decide who he can trust, and how far he’s willing – or able – to adapt to survive."
Time to eat your vegetables again y'all! What's a one-sentence elevator pitch for your book? If you need help, [thing] meets [thing] is a great baseline. #WritingPrompt

I say this as someone who works for an AI company, and has witnessed first-hand the degradation of thinking and creative ability as people use AI tools to do all the thinking/creation for them:

I totally agree.
I say this as someone whose entire job is finding the narrow use cases in which AI is actually useful:

All the fear about AI, all the reluctance to adopt it, is entirely legitimate, and a product of the fact that it's been foisted on the public with no consideration of its negative externalities.
I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

All of my historical characters have names pulled from written historical records. But for book two, which took place in Celtic Wales, I had a hard time since the Celts left little written information. I ended up pulling names from a registry of Celtic gravestones in England.

Went to see Ensiferum & Blind Guardian on Saturday. What a great show! And Ensiferum even posed with me for a picture after! This is the second time I've seen them this year.
Great band to watch live.
