“many of …same discriminatory attitudes that animated eugenicists in the past (e.g., racism, xenophobia, classism, ableism, and sexism) remain widespread within the movement to build AGI… while using the language of “safety” and “benefiting humanity” to evade accountability.” #q Gebru & Torres

Today at 1pm at the Spheres, 2111 7th Ave, Seattle!

Make sure Amazon understands that it's their workers and customers (the world around) who determine whether the company thrives. Dystopia is not a good plan, and they need to dump ICE, and honor their climate goals too!

Guys, they're scared (and we're going to win):

“Recently, the moderation team started banning memes and comments about ICE on the internal meme platform."
Google is stifling anti-ICE speech in the workplace as 1,200 employees call on the company to cut ties
The search giant has made it harder and riskier to protest its policies. Workers are still fighting back. Plus: A community takes down a data center, QuitGPT, and the 5 worst Super Bowl AI ads.

One down, two to go!

Amazon just announced that it’s meeting our third demand.

That’s great…but we're far from where we need to be. Amazon needs to understand who REALLY decides whether it thrives: its workers & its customers. No more dystopia.

Amazon has been cozying up to the regime—and doing its dirty work too.

Tomorrow, let's remind them who really decides whether the company thrives: workers and customers the world around. They've gotta clean up their act. #DumpICE
Join us TOMORROW to tell Amazon: #DumpICE!

AWS has big contracts with ICE, CBP & Palantir On the day Alex Pretti was murdered—in the same week that Amazon laid off 16,000 people—CEO Andy Jassy attended a private gala screening of the Melania premiere. Tell Amazon to stop propping up the regime!

With Jeff Bezos's dismantling of the Washington Post and Amazon's extensive ICE and DoD profiteering, it's imperative to understand precisely how both have openly become instruments of authoritarianism

Why is it that tech and AI boosters keep saying "you can't put the genie back in the bottle" when making arguments about AI's supposed inevitable dominance? Did they not read the story? The genie does, indeed, go back in the bottle. Maybe we should start there.

Because here's the thing: besides the messianic religious fanatics wanting to build the Third Temple and the tech oligarchs wanting to circle the planet in data centres, EVERYONE - across the political spectrum - hates where they are taking us.

AI is a climate issue. AI is a climate crisis.
A few important points here

- Generative AI supercharged data centre growth: lobbyist and substacker lines pretending like this is just streaming are false

- Even when you consider much of the projected growth is speculative, the *likely* projects are still MASSIVE
