We haven’t yet figured out how to effectively train AI on stuff that hasn’t happened—like deescalation to avoid war. So integration of more AI in war and defense will invariably lead to more aggression. Not great. Buckle up.
The Pentagon is racing to integrate AI into its weapons system to keep up with China and Russia.

Where will that lead?

What I find so interesting is that the ~*whims*~ of a few billionaires are gonna send the rest of us careening off of a cliff into climate catastrophe and job market collapse. We’re all buckled into a ride that they’re just…kinda…building…without any major regulation. Just vibes.

AI relies upon theft.
“What it really does is remove the barrier of skill. It lets people pretend they’re filmmakers when they’re not, by prompting software that wouldn’t even function without having stolen a hundred years of film and TV production made by real filmmakers.” www.latimes.com/entertainme...
De-aged stars, cloned voices, resuscitated dead icons: AI is changing the art and business of acting
AI isn’t hovering at the edges of acting anymore. It has reshaped faces, smoothed dialogue and fast-tracked everything from dubbing to reshoots. And its reach is growing.

Monitoring AI's train of thought is critical for improving AI safety and catching deception. But we're at risk of losing this ability.

They came for the ‘American Dream.’ He says conditions in detention were ‘inhumane.’ Now, she’s enrolled in the government’s program to self-deport.

“AI” is destroying us in so many ways.
A 2024 study found that 58 per cent of English majors at two Midwestern universities had so much trouble interpreting the opening paragraphs of “Bleak House” by Charles Dickens that “they would not be able to read the novel on their own.”
What Happens After A.I. Destroys College Writing?
The demise of the English paper will end a long intellectual tradition, but it’s also an opportunity to reëxamine the purpose of higher education.

The TCPA has been quite gutted in recent decisions and does little to protect consumers from unwanted calls. Now that AI is involved? Welcome to the fourth circle of hell.

Working from my mom’s house today and something really struck me. She doesn’t answer the landline anymore. Ever. She lets it ring. “It’s either a scam or spam.” Lawmakers have utterly failed to curb this nonsense. #TCPA #scams

Kinda funny AI commercials don't have a person asking the AI to do the kind of task they'd actually ask of a person with a brain.

At various points I've tested AI products by asking them to do things I'd ask of an intern, secretary, or paralegal. 100% failure rate.
every AI phone commercial is just someone having an extended, spoken conversation that could also have been a Google search before Google turned into AI slop

At the same time, in court:

“We own none of this. Not our fault. And even if it was our fault, no one suffered any damages. That credit card fraud? Couldn’t be us. Identity theft? Probably the individual’s fault.”

Just saw a TikTok of a kiosk in a Chinese airport that when you look at it, it shows you your flight info and which way to walk to your gate.

Like, *your* flight info.
