Teacher, singer, knitter, mom, cook, nerd, friend.
I lost my voice on Monday after being sick a few days and trying to teach at full voice all day. Toughed it out Tuesday, stayed home Wednesday.

My voice still isn't back. Older kid away at school, younger kid in bed. It's November 1st.

Which Christmas movie should I watch while I knit?

So, I have a problem with Meta. Or Meta has a problem with me. One isolated event and I would chalk it up to am AI glitch. But this is now a pattern...

I made what just might be the best batch of minestrone I've ever made, and my baseline minestrone is GOOD.

Perfect combo of mid July but cool and rainy = soup with all local produce!

As is usual with my ADHD brain and other bodily functions, I just, as in within the last minute, had a craving for fish and chips. Where I squeeze lemon juice on the fries before heavily salting, then dip them in tartar sauce, and do the same to the fish.

The most worth-it heart attack ever.

This country is a fascist shithole & my mom has Alzheimer's. (Dad died of Lewy-body dementia last year.)

I'm a teacher on "summer vacation" spending every free moment cleaning out my parents' house.

When I say my family and our collective cooking abilities and my mixology are keeping me sane?

Ketel One makes a cucumber variety. Do a half ounce of that, an ounce of your favorite gin (mine's Bar Hill, Stonecutter's a close second), some good-quality lemonade, and half a can of plain Polar selzer. If you can get a hold of Vena's Fizz House pine syrup, even better. Over ice.

You're welcome.

It’s a month since the administration detained and disappeared a green card holder, a lawful permanent resident.

We cannot allow this to be normalized or forgotten.

Today we went over what to do if ICE shows up at our school. Came home to friends posting about what to do when-- not if-- the Insurrection Act is invoked in a few weeks.

My heart hurts.

My self-care is learning One Summer's Day on the piano at my daughter's request. Right now I kinda suck at it.

Absolutely proud of you all! HUG! So far, 3.1 million protesters counted today — that’s nearly 1% of the U.S. population! Photos are flooding social media everywhere. Still waiting on more numbers to come in.

Worst two-day stock market crashes in the U.S. by percentage loss:

1. 1929 (the Great Depression)

2. 1987 (Black Monday)

3. 2008 (the Great Recession)

4. YESTERDAY AND TODAY

And while this happened, the man responsible for it was golfing and dining with enemies of America.

Hanson MA: honest question, what is wrong with many (most?) of you? The election was FIVE MONTHS AGO. Your guy won. You can take the campaign signs down.

And the flags. Plural.
And the huge neon contraptions some of you have rigged up.

If I shared a student's private information to anyone, online or off, I'd be breaking the law and would probably be fired. I might be sued. I might lose my teaching license.

And none of that would put anyone's lives or national security at risk.

Just sayin'.....

I try to do one meaningful action every day. Today I finished getting signatures for my town election. I also managed to take the right combo to somewhat mitigate my migraine.

It's the middle of Lent.

So I think it's appropriate to belt out the score of Jesus Christ Superstar while I make dinner.

My husband just asked if there's a TLDR of this. I don't think there is, but this is long and VERY worth the read.
Tonight, hours after the Paul Weiss news broke, an associate at Skadden Arps sent a firm-wide email:

"Please consider this email my two week notice, revocable if the firm comes up with a satisfactory response to the current moment...We do not have time. It is now or it is never..."

These numbers are going to get lower yet. I think many of the trip cancellations (and changed travel plans) will affect March numbers much more. Not to mention snowbirds who were there before the tariffs have been boosting the return numbers. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
