It's almost 10 years old, but I'm still very proud of this record I made with a bunch of fine friends. I've made lots of music over the years, & proud of it all, but this was a real collaborative project that was a good reflection of everyone in the band

I taught history of higher ed & in the student protest part showed that clip of Savio & it always hit the students so hard. Then worked at Berkeley for years, in the bldg behind where the speech was made

I was 8 when that happened. Playing outside with the neighbor kids, early evening, east coast US. We were all called inside to watch. I felt the gravity of the moment from my parents' reactions.

It's great. One of the best technological advances in sports coverage since HD or maybe super slo mo.
They're also using it for speed skating, and it's cool there.
Don't know for sure but I'd bet that kind of visual language comes from visual designers raised on video games. It just has that feel

In 2009 I was very active on Flickr & following a bunch of people, including an Icelandic photographer doing interesting landscapes. June 2009 I wander into an art space in Reykjavik, talking to the artists & realize seeing some of the work displayed that I was chatting with that same photographer.

How do media companies stay in business without subscription revenue? The online ad market is broken.
Good reporting & editing and maintaining websites costs money.
What's a system that works to fund the work & disseminate results?

Oh no. My condolences to his friend, family, and everyone at Defector. I’ve been thru something similar & I know how much it hurts to lose a friend, especially so young. His writing, and all of Defector has been so wonderful. He will be missed. And from another Philly guy, go Birds, go Phils!
