When researching Merovingian flesh takes you down a rabbit hole and you suddenly find yourself reading Ovid for the first time since the Roman lit survey over a decade ago. Can't. Escape. Classics.

I reached the point in revisions where I need to do some word searches and PSU doesn't have the Library of Latin Texts. Is anyone able to schedule a time to share their password with me? Please message if you can help. Thank you! #academia ##classicsbluesky #skystorians

I’m on day 34 of a writing challenge, and I would be lying if I said it was smooth sailing the entire time. About 2/3 of the way through October, I came down with a nasty cold. These are my r…

In mid-January 2025, I began making posts on BlueSky most days in which I post one or more medieval manuscripts associated with a saint in the calendar for that day. (I work from several calendars:…

In 10th grade AP World History, I did a group project on feudalism we set up like a Christmas pageant. ("I am a vassal! I swear fealty to the king!"). My son just learned feaudalism in fourth grade last year. These were both at public schools in Pennsylvania, which interestingly isn't on the list.
How every state in the US teaches about feudalism. A New post from me and @profgabriele.com, along with access to a slideshow and spreadsheet with more info.

24 states REQUIRE feudalism.
8 suggest feudalism.

Feudalism, ICYMI, is not a real thing. Click, read, share, subscribe (it's free!).

I discovered this over the summer when I tried to find a recipe for zucchini bread that wasn't super unhealthy but didn't use Greek yogurt. I went back to my collection of physical cookbooks after that for dinner foods, but I never did make the zucchini bread.
A fun fact is that you cannot search for recipes in Google anymore. All of the results will be slop. Same template for every recipe, random photo of a woman (always a woman!), dodgy instructions.

Everything in this 🧵! Practicing history w/o a license--w/o any understanding of how sources are identified & interrogated, and how interpretations are wrought out of them--can cause real harm, esp. in a field like #histmed. Professional historians exist. Find us. Seek us out. And get a 2nd opinion!
A plea:

I am 100% here for interdisciplinary work. But that work actually has to be INTERDISCIPLINARY: people working together across fields.

Not just someone from one field thinking that history is "easy" and, for that reason, "anyone can do it.
