This is a very important point. Breathlessly vague headlines and summaries of these executive orders created for the executive powers it does not have. This kind of press contributed to authoritarian regime change.
It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

Or more plainly, obvious voter suppression
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that would require voters to prove they are US citizens. The sweeping order attempts to prevent states from counting mail-in ballots received after Election Day and seeks to take away federal funding from states that do not comply reut.rs/4j3b9fd

Everyone is at risk in this regime, legal status be damned.

Also needs to be reiterated that lack of legal status shouldn’t diminish the horror of these moves.
WOW: @miamiherald.com reveals that a person imprisoned in El Salvador had LEGAL REFUGEE STATUS.

He entered the USA legally in January and was detained because of his tattoos, EVEN THOUGH he had previously passed a full background check.

Without warning, he was sent to El Salvador on March 15.

you can say they're not sane or their arguments don't pass constitutional muster till you're blue in the face. they have the power. they're doing it. And unless they are stopped they will keep doing it.
In the 2000s, the Supreme Court ruled time and again that even suspected terrorists captured in war zones overseas were entitled to due process.

In no sane world does Rubio's position pass constitutional muster.
Rubio’s position seems to be:

- We get to say who is a terrorist. Our decision is final. It can’t be challenged. Just trust us.
- Once we decide you are a terrorist, we can immediately deport you. No judges.
- After we deport you, we can make you rot in a foreign prison. No criminal charges needed.
