Altadena, North Park, San Diego, CA. Safe streets advocate. UCSD/SDSU grad. Curious if/when SD will ever start acting like a grown up city. Go Pads.
Super pumped crowd in San Diego for the No Kings protest today. And @sarajacobs.house.gov was giving out high fives!

Guessing they didn’t stop, either.

The latest crash on 33rd Street for those following along! Yesterday between Upas and Thorn. The road humps have helped, but this small residential street can't safely facilitate heavy volumes of traffic going to/from the 805. Waiting on Transportation Dept to address our October recommendations.

Just walked past Kyle Mooney in the Gaslamp, flagged him down and awkwardly wished him Happy Opening Day, as one does. #PadresStuff

One of the surprising things I learned from this book is that throughout US history, when presented with info about injustice, poor working conditions, etc., the wealthy and powerful simply did the right thing.

J/k a lot of people died in the struggle for fairness in a system stacked against them.
If you are looking to do your part in saving democracy, I highly recommend you buy and read ONE book:

Howard Zinn’s a People’s History of America.

It’s a MUST read. It’s not for the faint of heart, but we are at war for the soul of this nation & you have to be hardened to face the fight

READ IT!

www.cbs8.com/article/news... The Transportation Dept's survey data from 2022 (prior to the speedhumps being installed) showed that 33rd St carries heavy volumes of traffic not typcially permitted on residential streets. Bottom line: 33rd St can't safely convey commuters to/from the 805.

People always cry about a potential “big brother” surveillance state, but y’all have proved you can’t behave. Can’t stay out of bus and bike lanes, speeding 15+ MPH over the limit, running reds, etc. Bring in the cameras.

Now do San Diego.
The number of camera-issued tickets between 2023 and 2024 far surpasses the number of tickets handed out by the NYPD over that same timeframe.

Appears to be major injuries for a cyclist at Upas and Grim last night. Anyone know the status of the cyclist? Link in comments to Nextdoor post for those in the neighborhood.

Just like that, huh? I thought you were supposed to just send thoughts and prayers.

Some disturbing personal news: was confronted today with the fact that Lamb of God’s album Sacrament came out 19 years ago. Instead of metalhead, I must now be referred to as “old metalhead.” Tough scene.

unfortunately for these folks the odds are that they aren’t going to go after violent criminals at all — too hard — and going to go exclusively over the easiest targets, which are law abiding workers

Absolutely shocked to learn that my toddler will not eat the pasta I made him for breakfast, despite insisting 30 minutes ago that pasta was the only thing he would eat for breakfast.

Surprised to see the St. Augustine / Altadena (North Park) story included in @voiceofsandiego.org's top 10 stories of the year. @jakobmcwhinney.bsky.social did a very fair job IMO representing the complexity here. Pres Ed Hearn and I have since developed a great working relationship. I'm optimistic!

One hundred years ago today:

Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover opened the National Conference on Street and Highway Safety in Washington on December 15, 1924.

That same day, Barnett Wartell of Philadelphia, age 40, read about the event in the newspaper and wrote a personal letter to Hoover.

Another super fun South Park Walkabout last night. Live music at Vinyl Junkies, beers at Fall, etc. Boggles my mind they can’t close 30th for this. Tons of ppl crammed on the narrow sidewalks while cars zip through. Doesn’t make sense.

Wut. This bridge existed? Could have been repurposed into a much needed bike and ped bridge connecting North/South Park with Balboa Park.
