I'm happy to report that Rebecca Hsu and I just published a new article at Applied Economics. We find that eviction moratoria reduced eviction filings disproportionately for nonwhite and female renters, likely because they were at higher risk of eviction with no moratorium. #EconSky t.co/xjdE8ZA8iK

It's quaint to think you could make filling out an application in an overly literal manner a scandal. It reminds me of a (deeply flawed but) healthier national politics of a prior era, before we were inured to far more scandalous behavior.

Popularism at its core is
1. Do/say popular stuff.
2. When your rivals do/say unpopular stuff, hammer them.

Apparently there's an off-shoot with many proponents where you just don't do 2 if it increases the salience of a general issue that's bad for you. But that seems like a pretty wild bank shot!

Over/under on time it takes to back off of these tariffs? Reimpose them on Liberation Day 2?

Schumer caving is giving Æthelred the Unready paying the first Danegeld. Sure, you avoided substantial immediate harm, but you just declared open season on yourself.

The Thunder just swept the season series against the Celtics, and some are questioning the free throw disparity favoring the Thunder. Celtics fans say Shai baits for fouls. Thunder fans say the Celtics settle for jump shots, so of course they don't go to the line.

Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by Trump admin in order to escape charges.

This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go.

nuking USAID and asking for CIA resignations is Cold War dream list stuff and there are basically two powers who would be rooting for it

Is there something the people in the Mavs front office know about Luka that we don't? I get he has an attitude and conditioning issues, but that can't be the only thing. Perhaps the secret we're learning is that with Cuban out of the picture they've become myopic and cheap.

Lifting the tariffs and raising the coffee supply won’t bring prices down. That’s just deregulatory market fundamentalism. Actually what we need to do is decommodify coffee.

People hate Matt. I don't really, even though I vehemently disagree with much of what he proposes (most importantly the trans stuff).

The core of the difference is Matt's intense econ brain applied to politics, which is perhaps the biggest problem Dems have at the moment.

Trump is threatening violence against his opponents and is in the process of purging the security services.

I think it’s a terrifying moment.

I wish it repulsed 65% of voters rather than 45%.

But we’re in the real world and we need the biggest tent possible.

I once naively thought that since child mortality was so much higher back in the day people would be inured to it. But reading the Stoic philosophers (Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius in particular) made it apparent: no, it was experienced as fully devastating, it took immense fortitude just to go on.

Two things can be true:
1. Kings ownership is the main problem and has been for a long time.
2. Mike Brown is not a good head coach.

Coach of the Year is a curse primarily because it goes to mediocre coaches who have one fluke season and then regress to the mean.
