I have had and heard this debate many times. It ends with economists admitting Govts do create taxpayer dollars (sic) by spending, as do banks by lending, but they don't want politicians to get any fancy ideas about using that framing and power for the public good.

Seymour, Hobson's Pledge et al are really struggling to frame a response to this. 'Te Tiriti' is not a magic word that instantly causes your kids to forget how to add.

I think one of the reasons China's nuclear build-out doesn't get mentioned that much by right-wingers, conservatives etc in the west is simply that this sort of betrays the actual reason they talk about nuclear: an expensive, impossible and distant promise while coal and gas get expanded today
