Just an older British bloke who is very dismayed by the series of rightward lurches the world has taken lately. I respect diverse opinions, but not flagrant refusal to see the truth.
I still #FBPE.
Unsolicited unwelcome DM = instant block.

I decided to change my profile pic back to old greybeard for a bit, as on the other place. I may change it again soon. Or not.
Sorry but from where I’m sitting these are still the Brexit years, and the minor rapprochements with Europe we are seeing, while welcome, are not inspiring me.
“We are not the Britain of the Brexit years anymore”

Prime minister Keir Starmer 👏

You can joke about Pam Bondi’s ridiculous unprofessionalism all you want, but I’m deeply shocked by it: She acts as if she fears absolutely no consequences, convinced that there will be no more political power transfers. — This should shake everyone to their core.

So perfect...!

This info has been in public domain for a while, but perhaps seeing it as an email from Epstein might just sway someone to take off their rose tinted Trump-Vision glasses

After many instances of the Trump administration lying to the courts as well as flouting dozens of court orders Judges are beginning to realize that it is, in fact, a criminal organization.
NEW: A federal judge in Oregon issued a sweeping rebuke of the Justice Department’s nationwide push to seize state voter rolls, ruling that the department can no longer be presumed to be acting in good faith and warning that its conduct threatens voters and states’ rights.
Federal judge rules DOJ can ‘no longer’ be trusted in voter roll crusade
The judge pointed to a letter from Bondi to Minnesota that tied federal immigration enforcement to demands for voter data as the smoking gun.

Just an idea folks. Would it not make sense for Peers and MPs to undergo regular security vetting?

Costly you say? I think they could and should pay for it themselves.

After all we make doctors pay for their professional registration and exams.

This is an absolute disgrace. Trump is not fit to hold his post. It is terrifying that such a despicable, corrupt racist is President of USA with all the powers that brings. He absolutely should be impeached. He clearly feels he is beyond any constraints of decency or law. Hateful man!

I still have a lot of respect for Starmer, but his statement about Mandelson "I had no reason at the time to KNOW they were lies" is a bit of an issue.

That may well be so, but he had plenty of reasons to THINK that they MIGHT BE lies, and it remains to be seen what if anything he did about that.

Some are understandably saying this should not be reposted, but on balance I think the more viral it goes, the better. It just might open someone's eyes to what Trump is.
Last night, Trump posted a video to his social media platform that contained a racist clip showing Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys. It's still up:

100%

It’s always staggered me how readily people convince themselves that the leopard has changed its spots.
One lesson from the Epstein–Mandelson affair is that we need to stop routinely rehabilitating political careers after serious scandals.

When politicians knowingly engage in grave ethical wrongdoing, that should permanently end their political careers. Being "talented" should not override that.

Sheer insanity

Funny how the EU is making people resign over their names mentioned in the Epstein files. While here we are told we don’t have enough info to do investigations.

Wes Streeting saying on Today that Mandelson is ‘not the man we thought he was’ but the trouble is, he is exactly the man we thought, just on a much worse scale than almost anyone thought. And there is an alternative world where none of this is this govt’s problem, because they never gave him a job

Not just banning hidden handles - insisting on a mechanical release inside and outside all doors.

Bloody good idea.

Anyone who’s ever struggled to either get into or make secure a modern car with a flat battery or an electrical fault knows.
China to become first country to ban hidden car door handles. This due to safety concerns after EV accidents where electronic doors reportedly failed to operate and trapped passengers inside.

The Department of Justice just admitted it is STILL withholding roughly 50% of the Epstein files after this week’s release — while claiming it has fully complied with the law.
