The more classic films I watch the more references I can see in other films and by the time I am old I will be very knowledgeable and also completely insufferable

From Russia With Love is such a funny movie. The Training School for Evil Henchmen is something that bond parodies wished they could do, but they can't, because they already did it as part of a real bond film

I love stone circle outliers
The outlier of the Nine Stones in the #PeakDistrict. It stands between the main circle, on their shallow mound, and Robin Hood's Stride, an oddly shaped outcrop that may have inspired the building of the circle. (Scanned from a photo I took in 2002.)

Never ceases to amaze me how big the Stuka was.

Shades of #fitzcarraldo. Ethiopia has transported a 188-seat passenger ferry, the Tananesh, from Djibouti all the way to Lake Tana in the Ethiopian mountains. According to @theeconomistnews.bsky.social the ferry’s road journey took over a year. Some pikkies here

Trump on Ukraine: “really certainly the most deadly war since World War Two, probably the biggest war since World War Two.”

Wrong. Russia-Ukraine war since 2022: less than half a million dead (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualt...). 2nd Congo war: 5.4 million dead

This war's been going on since February 2023 and the entire time it's been a Janjaweed vengeance spree against the Black people of Sudan for surviving the first round of this genocide. Nobody's given a real damn and evidently nobody ever will except the dead and those about to die.
"The massacres in El Fasher are among the most predicted slaughters in the history of atrocities. Yet no one, from world leaders to the United Nations secretary general, António Guterres, has made it a sufficient focus."
