Part of the Dead will always be in a field in Oregon, baking in the late August heat, but then slipping into “Dark Star” as the Sun was going down.

As Prankster and Veneta emcee Ken Babbs told me recently, “it went on forever.” Here’s to another lap.

One lesson learned working in media… news and culture are not commodity content. Support what gives you value. This or something/one else… it’s the only shot we have at pulling out of this race to the bottom.

The Wall of Sound lived many lives, brought to life vividly by @thebanderson.bsky.social in his book… was honored to read early and it was fantastic. A worthy addition to the GD book canon.

It’s the masks for me, dog… the whole thing is SHAMEFUL but hiding behind a balaclava as an officer — disgraceful.
Not sure if this has been shared here yet, but this is video of Rumeysa Ozturk's arrest posted by WCVB. It's terrifying.

Brian is one of the best at providing context that illuminates the often unsung but nevertheless critical roles played by those who helped make the Dead machine run
Maybe you’ve seen that the Dead are the 2025 MusiCares Persons of the Year, in part due to their righteous legacy of philanthropic efforts. That charitable work first got going in the early 80s with the formation of the Rex Foundation, a non-profit named after early Dead roadie Donald “Rex” Jackson.
