The Chicago public library system is truly a wonder. 81 branches catered to the needs of the neighborhoods they serve. PLUS vital access to resources that improve the lives of many (homework help from teachers in lib, access to broadband, 3d printers, artists in residence.. etc.)!

Maybe you’ve seen that the Dead are the 2025 MusiCares Persons of the Year, in part due to their righteous legacy of philanthropic efforts. That charitable work first got going in the early 80s with the formation of the Rex Foundation, a non-profit named after early Dead roadie Donald “Rex” Jackson.

In 1995, as an aspiring prep school hippie, AJ was top of the heap. Saw them at the Iron Horse in summer of ‘97 and it was a foundational live music experience for me.
Two 2005 albums I haven’t yet seen in 20 year anniversary discourse that hold up super well all these years on.
