Undiscovered Garcia country, even now: a reel with two unreleased Peter Rowan tracks with Jerry Garcia has surfaced. Recorded August 21, 1973 at the Record Plant. 4 other tracks were released on Rowan's 1979 Texican Badman album. Updated an old blog.

Jerry Garcia played on two unreleased Peter Rowan demos recorded at the Record Plant in Sausalito on August 21, 1973. The Dead were recording Wake Of The Flood at the time. Warners financed the demo. Bill Kreutzmann, John Kahn and David Grisman played on the demos, and Chris and Lorin Rowan sang. 4 other tracks from the demo were on Rowan's 1979 album Texican Badman, released in Italy. The reel from the Record Plant demo by Peter Rowan on August 21, 1973 with two tracks featuring Jerry Garcia on electric guitar ("Lazy Bones" and "Dragon On The Moon." I have not heard the tracks.

Remembering the originator of the phrase "Keep on Truckin'," blues guitarist & vocalist Blind Boy Fuller, born Fulton Allen on July 10, 1907, in Wadesboro, NC (d. February 13, '41), known for his fingerpicking guitar, soulful vocals, and songs w/ blues, ragtime & folk influences. More: alt text
Blind Boy Fuller was one of the most popular of the recorded Piedmont blues artists with rural Black Americans, a group that also included Blind Blake, Josh White, and Buddy Moss. Fuller's repertoire included a number of popular double entendre "hokum" songs such as "I Want Some Of Your Pie", "Truckin' My Blues Away" (the origin of the phrase "keep on truckin'"), and "Get Your Yas Yas Out" (adapted as "Get Your Ya-Yas Out" for the origin of a later Rolling Stones album title), together with the autobiographical "Big House Bound" dedicated to his time spent in jail. Though much of his material was culled from traditional folk and blues numbers, he possessed a formidable finger-picking guitar style.

happy Jai Alai day! A fun fact about this show that I learned from @thebanderson.bsky.social’s book is that the crew had to “bust out the sledgehammers” in the words of Steve Parish to get the Wall of Sound into the venue, leading to the Dead having to pay to repair the exterior later
