5 years ago, the #TPNW established a prohibition of #nuclearweapons due to their unacceptable humanitarian consequences + risks. Moving away from #nuclearweapons is today more urgent amid geopolitical tensions and even higher nuclear risks.

An honour to meet the new UNHCR, Barham Salih.
#UNHCR is a trusted partner in implementing #HumanitarianAid, addressing global refugee & displacement challenges. Supporting people in need as close to their home as possible is a humanitarian necessity — @unhcr.org’s work is key.

Today in 1987, Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, the first to ever require verifiable elimination of an entire class of weapons (missiles only, not nuclear warheads).
