Also applies in Illinois, where Trump administration officials sent Texas & California National Guard troops

That issue (and whether the president can deploy the Illinois National Guard over the objections of the Illinois governor) has been pending before the U.S. Supreme Court for two (2) months
IMPORTANT: The unanimous panel raises doubts about the constitutionality of deploying out-of-state guard troops to a "non-consenting state." That doesn't apply to D.C. they say, but would certainly cover what Trump/Hegseth did in Portland. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Chicago Police Chief Snelling needs to be grilled by all elected officials and journalists about why the *Hell* this is happening.

If he ordered it, if he allows it to go on, he must be replaced with someone who won't.

The blockade of Venezuela is a disgusting echo of U.S. imperialism in Latin America. We were lied to about Iraq and WMDs, and an entire generation paid the price.

Here we are again.

We cannot let a wannabe dictator drag us into another forever war.

NEW from me: the cook county sheriff's office missed a state-mandated deadline to report that, from april 2024-march 2025, it owned and used 10 surveillance drones.

it's the second time in as many years that a chicago-area police agency has violated illinois’ drone surveillance law.

Another example of how fucked originalism is as a methodology. Basically directly imports schmittian colonialism into the constitution, like hey there were some white guys who made an apartheid state and hoarded the weapons for themselves and so we have to read it like a settler colonial hoard law

I finally got an answer back from CPD on Carlos Baker’s status. He’s the cop who fatally shot his partner, allegedly shortly after she ended their relationship.

“Officer Baker is on Active Status, assigned to the 6th District and Detailed to Unit 376.”

376 is the Alternate Response Section.
So: a walking embodiment of ACAB who, even by pro-cop standards, should never have made it past probation and at best killed someone by incompetence and will cost the city milliions is technically still employed and no coverage I've found says if he's getting paid or not.
Not fired, just relieved of his police powers. It could take years to actually fire him.
