@ajo1987.bsky.social
I am Groot (interested in PDX life, urbanism, transit, and all that good stuff). Professional agitator and anarchist, apparently. Views are mine and not my employer’s.
Everyone jumping ship as the Titanic is sinking, apparently.

Seattle ‘bout to get a far superior K. Wilson. Very jealous but very happy for them!

One would think our region’s transit agency would be the fiercest advocates for bus only lanes to get their buses and riders moving more quickly and reliably…and yet.

Trump take Thanksgiving
The FAA will cut flights at 40 "high-volume" airports as the federal government shutdown drags on.

The feds didn't say which 40 airports would be affected, but Portland International Airport, incidentally, is the nation's 30th largest by passenger volume. A list is expected sometime Thursday.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said a list of the affected markets would be released Thursday.

Not ideal! Hopefully remaining returns end up shifting this race
In early results, Katie Wilson trails incumbent Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell by 7 points, which would put her within reach of catching him in late returns. This is going to be a nailbiter.

They called this IMMEDIATELY as the polls closed. It wasn’t close. Very important result in the U.S. fight against Trump’s fascism. #Prop50

For sure, a fair number of problematic stereotypes, but the singing is on point, and it’s exactly my type of humor. Good enough to go see twice imo. Holds up pretty well to the original Broadway cast too.

It’s a little thing but I was very happy to see yesterday that the public pathway through the art museum is finally open, and to walk through it. We need more car-free connections like this, and I’m glad those one didn’t get removed as part of the museum expansion.

Just talked to my partner about this and we agreed that since we weren’t expecting to pay $2k less in property taxes and we’re fortunate enough to not need that windfall, we’ll be donating the entire difference to the Oregon Food Bank.
I got my property tax statement recently and according to them, my downtown condo’s market value dropped by about 25% this year, putting it well below last year’s assessed value (which had nearly caught up to the market value).

I feel this strongly. As a very introverted person, I basically force myself to be extroverted when I’m attending a conference, but it leaves me extra exhausted at the end of every day, and for like a week after, I basically don’t want to even talk to anybody.
We need to invent “networking for introverts.” Conferences are too draining in their current state and they rely too much on people wanting to walk up to strangers and start a conversation.

The dream of the 90s (Jail Blazers) is alive in Portland!
In a stunning revelation Thursday morning, the FBI announced that it had arrested Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups in Portland for participating in an illicit poker ring run by the Mafia, part of a massive, multiyear investigation into gambling crimes that snared at least 34 people.
