When I arrived in the UK 25 years ago I had a job at a university that paid £21k. I could barely make ends meet but I worked hard and eventually I succeeded. I guess this Labour government considers young broke hardworking me a “taker”?

Fuck this.
This is so disgusting.

Dear retailers. I don’t actually need any more little 4mm allen keys. I have bought and constructed things from other retailers previously. Save yourselves the allen key cost.

Can you buy us a new AV system / some flags?
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

Dollars to donuts the complainants will be older people sitting on massive amounts of property wealth and not younger high income people facing massively increased childcare costs (salary sac) or higher student loan repayments.

Ringway 1 would have gone straight through my old flat.
London's Ringways are a whole network of unbuilt urban motorways threaded through the capital. There's never been a complete map of them, not even one made by their designers, until now. Today we're publishing the Ringways Map from @roads.org.uk to let you see in the city that London nearly became.

Now out in Party Politics 🎉

Our study (@jbpilet.bsky.social)suggests that when a mainstream right-wing party signals willingness to rule with the radical right, support for the radical right rises — while the mainstream gains nothing.
👉 A legitimisation effect.

The reality is that Sultana and co are not actually very interested in workers' rights and struggles in Ukraine. Talking about Zelensky's anti-worker policies is just a way of expressing their hostility to Ukraine's rights.

The Conservatives have drafted the legislation.

ANY one of the conditions being met leads to ILR being revoked.

If annual income falls below £38,700 for six months (for any reason at all)

The Secretary of State would also have the powers add whatever further conditions they want.

I've been blaming memes for this, and I think it fits. A lot of the angriest people out there aren't actually consuming news, they're consuming news-flavored content, and the content is a funhouse mirror version of reality that they're mistaking for being real.

Punchy opening from Tom Tugendhat, who says the move of young voters from centrist parties is "a logical series of outcomes for an economic system that has effectively become a Ponzi system for the old", eg the pension triple lock.

"Guess what? They have worked it out," Tugendhat says.

The media - yes, we will report on fun stunts

The media, also - the Lib Dems need to show they've got serious policies

I’m reminded that bits of the commentariat have always tried to explain Trump’s behaviour and decision making as consistent and based on well thought out strategies, and that now feels more futile and desperate than ever.

Today I found possibly the worst piece of urban design I’ve ever encountered - take a bow Victoria Place car park, Woking.

No signage or obvious routes for pedestrian access in or out, convoluted shape, apparently no access at all on three sides.

I’d love to know what the architect was taking.

Sorry but if you’re going to give winter fuel payments to pensioners earning under average wage, why are you not giving them to everyone else earning under the average wage, who is:

1) less likely to have other sources of funds
2) more likely to have large housing costs and be supporting children
